Guys, I have a MTEC HID kit with the DRL module to disable the DRL's.  My only problem is that I don't know where to get the signal wire from to power my DRL module.  I really don't want to have to remove my bumper and headlights to access my side corner wires.  Does anyone know what wire I can splice into signal my DRL module?  A picture showing the wire would be great.

Thanks for any help you guys can provide.

do you have a pic of the setup?  YOu could use a connection directly to the battery.  That would be the easiest if you don't want to access the side corner wires.  For the corner wires you don't have to take apart the bumper, the wire loom has enough room for you to get at it.  You just need to cut some of it away to expose the wire.

You can take out the CORNER (not side) markers without taking off the bumper...

Derrick, did an HID install for a Mazda5....it was interesting to see the "olympic torch" heheh

Welcome to the forums Jeremie.

Damn, I knew I should have taken pictures when I was working on Jason's brother-in-law's car. Sad

You do not want to use the battery for your signal wire, or else the HIDs will always be on. On the 5 it is more difficult to get at the wires for the corner marker than on the 3. It is not just a matter of getting through the electrical tape they use to cover it up.

The easiest way I found (after hours of trying different stuff) is to turn your wheel all the way to the right and open up the wheel well splash guard and stick your arm up from there. After you get the bulb disconnected from the housing, fish it back up to the inside of the engine bay so you can work on it there. I believe it is the orange/blue wire, if it is the same as the 3.

i should have been more clear in my post.  I meant having a switch and hard wiring it right to the battery so you can turn it on and off when you need it and not worry about the drl and rewiring.

You can also cut the wireloom back a little bit to expose the wire for the turn signal and use a tap to connect the two wires together for the DRL signal.

Well, got it figured out.  It is the grey/black wire that is plugged into the 3 wire harness besides the driver side head light.  Actually, quite easy to install.  If I would have new that it was this easy to install, I would have done it a year ago when I got the kit.  Everything would look awsome if both of my ballasts worked.  One ballast flicker at low light for a few seconds and that was it.  Switched the ballasts to see if it was the wiring, and one ballast works in both positions.  ANy ideas about the ballast?  Where do you even buy one ballast.

Seems like you may have just gotten a faulty ballast. Would it be possible to warranty it?

There are actually motorcycle HID kits that only have one ballast and bulb. They are still pretty pricey though.

I may have a spare ballast that I could sell to you.
