Could any service guys enlighten me with my dilemna, changed the auto transaxle oil on the '88 626, Haynes manual says when drained it requires 6.8L to refill, I put in 4 and it's still way over the full mark, any ideas!

Maybe the engine needs to be running?
I recall that to check the auto trans fuild level properly, the engine should be running...
I have attached the steps for the Mazda3. I'd that some of that may apply to your 626

btw, I'm going to move your thread to the "other Mazdas" section, as the technical sections of the forum are really intended for the Mazda3 and the Speed 3.

Your transmission has fluid capacity of 6.8L, but you did not drain 6.8L out of it. You probably drained out a little under 3 liters, the rest is trapped inside the torque converter.

I see, I guess I'll have to do a couple of drains and flushes to clean out most of the old fluid, that explains everything.
