OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENT: Possession of a valid BC Class 5 Driver's licence.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

- Maintenance of a valid Health Canada medical clearance for Occupational Diving
- Reliability clearance
- Candidates will have to pass a pressure tolerance test in order to commence training.

Challenge
This is an exciting opportunity for individuals with diving experience to be part of the Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) Rescue Diving team. Successful candidates will receive training in CCG Rescue Diving. When you successfully complete your training you will receive your CCG Rescue Diver Certification and become a CCG Rescue Diver. (Please see “Notes”.)
As a Seaman you provide search and rescue services, station and vessel maintenance, and other duties aboard a DFO Search and Rescue vessel (Air Cushion Vehicle and Fast Response Craft) to meet the program requirements of CCG and DFO. As well you provide scuba and surface supply diving services in support of members of the public.
A Seaman/CCG Rescue Diver works 12 hour shifts, on a four day “on” and “off” cycle, at the Sea Island Hovercraft Base, in Richmond, BC.
Additional Requirements / Comments
Successful candidates must be willing and able to undergo training as a CCG Rescue Diver.
*Successful candidates may initially be offered a Casual opportunity as a Seaman/Public Safety DIVING TRAINEE, until they complete their training in CCG Rescue Diving and have obtained certification as a CCG Rescue Diver.
To be appointed as a Seaman/Public Safety DIVER on a temporary (Term) or permanent (Indeterminate) basis, successful candidates must also meet the following criteria as established in the Statement of Merit Criteria.
o Possession of a CCG Rescue Diver certification
o Knowledge of Federal Diving Regulations.
o Ability to undertake diver operations as they pertain to Public Safety Diving.
o Conditions of Employment:
- Security Clearance –Secret, with Airport Clearance.
- Willing and able to maintain CCG Rescue Diver proficiency standard and certification.
**As the work unit and positions are currently under review, candidates who successfully complete the CCG Rescue Diving and have obtained certification as a CCG Rescue Diver, may be offered Term appointments until such time the organizational review is completed.
*** Qualified candidates shall be entitled to receive a diving allowance of $700 per year.
Upon completion of the organization and classification review, candidates may be appointed on an Indeterminate basis to a Seaman/ Public Safety Diver position, at the established group and level for the position. Note that position titles may change to better reflect a position’s responsibilities.
