bachelor of arts psyc major!
Starbucks?
Oh, that Mike. He's a mean one. But unfortunately I'm not sure what jobs someone with a psyc major would be qualified for and I haven't heard of any HR/IT jobs lately. Will let you know if I see anything.

What field you want to get in?
Doesn't BB has career path to help you advance? Or you no longer with BB?

Jimmy - what are your career goals? I work in the HR field - is HR the general direction you are looking to go? If so, you should join BCHRMA and go to some mingles (great networking). My immediate supervisor also has a degree is Psyc as well- it translates well to the HR field. I would maybe consider completing an additional certificate in HR if that's the direction you want to head. Employement Law, Labour Relations, Recruitment will come in handy! Don't accept an assistant role, there are HR generalist roles out there for new grads; keep looking! I got hired in an Advisor role right after completing my BBA. Goodluck!

Psssh, I have a BA in PSYC and I can attest that its one versatile degree. Besides a BA is a BA is a BA. That goes for almost all Undergrad degrees anyways. Main thing is like BCMS3 said, mingle, network and keep looking! I heard that BCIT has a HR certification that you can look up. My G/F is also a PSYC major and she works in HR. Just keep looking man

Do you have to have a Class 2 to apply or is training included? I'd be kinda interested, on one hand it's a significant-ish paycut ($19/hour starting?), on the other hand I'm like a 10 minute walk from the Port Coquitlam depot, provided I get routes out of there... and I did list in my Grade 5 All About Me assignment that I wanted to be a bus driver when I grew up. lol.

I'm not sure why he would not recommend it but my g/f started in an assistant role (more receptionist than assistant) and then moved up from there. I think over the next few months to few years she may get a chance to get a bump to an HR advisor role. I think if its an institution you're interested in, def apply. Go for the interview and make sure to ask relevant questions to see if you'd like it and if there are opportunities to move up. Gotta start somewhere right?

Goodluck! got a question why do you recommend against a HR assistant role? just wondering because i jsut saw an opening in a instituion that i want to work for in a HR assistant role =/ If the organization is of interest to you then by all means apply. The reason that I recommended against an HR Assistant role is that most HR Assistant roles are purely administrative in nature i.e. writing memos, offer letters, processing payroll, benefits enrolments etc. You won't develop the skills needed to become an advisor/generalist one day doing administrative work. You likely won't be involved in the more complex HR activities such as labour/employee relations, investigations, corporate training, recruitment etc. in an assistant role. However, this has just been my experience graduating with my BBA and looking for HR roles. I personally didn't want to be the HR secretary doing administrative work as I felt it wouldn't allow me to utilize my skill set. It all depends on what your interests are, I just didn't want you to sell yourself short. If the organization has great training and development opportunities for you to move around the organization and move into an advisory role one day then by all means go for it!
