I've read around and the reviews for the lenses aren't the greatest, but they all say....it's great for starting out and you can't go wrong with the price.

yup, they are the cheapest kit lens but then it is great for learning the basics
and have the choice of investing more or not

wow that is cheap...i was thinking about either that or get the nikon that's in the same price range.  reviews for the nikon seems to be better than the rebel.

If you are just starting out, maybe consider getting a used camera and spend some money on courses. I'd like to go that route in the future. A DSLR is a powerful tool if you know how to use it.
