The first pictures have surfaced of what could become the next generation Mazdaspeed 6. Set to debut at the Tokyo Auto Salon in January, the Atenza Mazdaspeed Concept sits lower than the recently unveiled regular model and wears big ten-spoke alloys. It also has some unique bodywork, including the massive vents beneath the headlights. Unfortunately, the United States will get a different, larger version of the new midsize sedan, and there are no current plans for a Mazdaspeed replacement following the poor reception of the first generation model.

that looks good.. but could that possibly be just a normal mazdaspeed kit?  like how they had a mazdaspeed kit for the 3.

Just because Mazda didn't get the first MS6 right, doesn't mean they should give up. I think a 2nd gen MS6 would be great, especially if they fixed all the shortcomings of the first.

I'm more disturbed by this comment...

...the United States will get a different, larger version of the new midsize sedan....

This is the first confirmation I have seen that we are getting an "Americanized" version of the 6. Disappointing.

I hope it's not like the Americanized version of the Honda Accord. In Japan, our Accord is called the Inspire. Which is about a gazillion times bigger, heavier, fatter, than the JDM Accord (TSX).

The NA Mazda6 is supposed to be targetted at the NA Accord so I would expect the two to be a similar sized/priced/equipped.

We're not going to get the 6 that the rest of the world gets because it's based on the European Ford Mondeo, which Ford USA doesn't want to bring to North America.  Probably because if word got out that Ford could actually build a decent car, they wouldn't be able to sell their domestically produced pieces of shit.

I'm actually surprised we ever got the 3 considering that it's similar to the European Escort (Focus?) as opposed to the North American Focus.

if they could maintain the same design elements as this original 6 for the rest of the world.. but upsized it, i think that would find a good compromise between the car enthusiasts and america's need for a bigger vehicle.
