so i tried taking pictures using RAW + jpg
and the result?
the jpg image that is processed in the camera looks exactly the same as the picture preview for the CR2 image (the edited look)
when i manually save the CR2 file into a jpg, it looks diff than the jpg straight out of the camera
so the picture preview that is shown in Windows is how the processed jpg image from the camera looks like

hm...weird.  I can't view my raw files without photoshop, lightroom or Nikon's editing software.

Sounds like what happened is that the Photoshop simply processed the images differently than the way any Canon software (in-camera or in-computer) would.

I prefer Lightroom for quick edits.  Mac as well as PC.

For my shoots which involve a larger amount of photos (i.e. over net 300 shots), I use Bridge + Photoshop.

It's a bit overwhelming at first but once you know where all the buttons are, it's a lot faster.

lightroom is so much easier than going through photoshop.  If your pics are good to begin with, they shouldn't require much touch up.  the 2 that I posted up in the lounge took about 5mins each.  Crop, minor color adjustment, exposure adjustment, and shadows.  Converted the raw file to high quality jpeg and that was it.

The adjustments that lightroom allows me to do are exactly the same as the photoshop preview window

I prefer lightroom just because it is more manageable to edit multiple photos and the interface is a lot more user friendly

But Photoshop RAW plugin gives you much more control.  I personally love it for the lens correction that it gives.

I guess for everyday use it's not necessary for most people.
