ok well my friend was drving his car 02 mazda protege 5 till his car started to do a jerk motion like it was trying to stall or something so he pulled over and let the car run for a bit and then the problem was gone, but now he has a check engine light now.   He continued driving no problems, he tried shutting off the engine and starting it up again no problems either.  But 2 days ago he did have his oil/spark plugs changed too. but i dont know what the problem is thou.  so what should he do as for now with the check engine light? and what might of cause the car to studder like that?

check spark plug wires. make sure they're plugged in tight. if 1 (or more) is loose = no spark = no fire = no kicking piston.

Fuel filter? If it hasn't been changed that's a fairly easy one that should be done anyway.

If there is a check engine light, get an ODB2 reader and check the code. It will either tell you what is wrong or at least give you a good idea of where to start.
