YES i was one of the 6 cars. Around 630 am going to UBC to work the van in front of me suddenly stopped I managed to make a full stop considering the poor road condition this morning but the van at the back hit the rear bumper causing for my car to move forward and hit the van in front of me (and YES i had my set belt on!) then follow the other three vehicles. reported ASAP to ICBC. My car has an estimated cost damage of $1,312.98. Now im just waiting for the other drivers to report before i get my car fixed. NOW i am just worried if the guy behind me will not admit that the collision had a strong impact that cause my car to hit the van in front of me. Well I guess i have to wait and see. Called my MD for check up but they are full booked have to wait till next monday.( ) This is my first collision hopefully the last any headsup that i need to know. thanks for your time reading this long story

Glad to see you're okay though. Hopefully you don't get screwed with the ...."you stopped too close" excuse. If you do get 100% coverage...time to upgrade your bumpers!!! Do I smell bodykit or MS speed body? hehehe

Sounds kinda like my accident, except it ended up being over $9,000.00 in damage.

Just ask for the parts from the body shop. Pay the difference

ms3 front bumper isn't gonna fit.. unless you got a new hood, bumper and fenders.. and even so it's a toss.. the rear bumper however would fit without a problem.

Glad to see you're okay though.
Hopefully you don't get screwed with the ...."you stopped too close" excuse.
That's what I'm thinking. ICBC will try to pin you with the "you were following too closely" bit since you technically rear-ended the car in front of you. From what I've heard....it doesn't matter if you get pushed because you should have created ample space in bad weather/any weather. Fingers crossed that it all works out though!

It depends on what the body shop can get the parts for. When you bring it in tell them that you want a different bumper. They may be hesitant, but tell them it is an original Mazda piece. You basically only have to pay for the bumper cover, foam and some misc. pieces. Paint and finishing should be included since they would have to do that with the regular bumper anyway. This only works if the damage is bad enough that they will replace the bumper versus repairing it. Hopefully the driver behind you will admit fault for the accident. The driver behind me did, so I didn't have any problems.

Thats what the driver said it was his fault but i dont know if he will agree that he push me forward resultiing to hitting the car in front of me.. and all statements could change when they go to icbc so i guess there are lots of possibilities.. BTW thanks a lot for all of you replying to this thread feels better when i get some other ideas(like the ms3 rear bumper) I feel okay that im not hurt ( for now )(im not sure in the next few days) i just hope ICBC will not screw me up i hate paying high insurance one reason i traded my prelude again THANKS A LOT GUYS and 1 GAL...

ICBC should ask the car in front of you how many times they felt an impact. if they only felt it once, that means its most likely you got pushed into in by the car behind you. However, if they said they felt two impact, then they'd think you didn't leave enough distance; you hitted the car infront of you; the cars behind hitted you and then pushed you forward to hit the van again.
If you hitted the car infront of you first, less possibility you would have enough time to seperate yourself far enough for another car to hit you without you hitting the van again; they'd have felt pushed twice. Therefore, if they only felt pushed once, that means it was the car behind you gave you the momentum to hit the van infront of you.

it makes sense but do you think they will feel the second impact if we were just driving within 50-55 kmph?

because they feel one from you hitting them, then another from you hitting them again (car behind you pushed you into him again)

I've been a similar accident to derrick's and your's. I was driving a Dodge Caravan and was hit by a Dodge Aries at 50kmph and I felt the impact. Being hit by +3200lbs of steel/plastic/rubber/etc. will be felt at any speed.
