Mazda is preparing a new city car concept that will roll the Taiki, Ryuga, Hakaze and Furai design themes into one small package. The concept — dubbed the Mazda1 — will debut at this year's Paris Motor show and should slot below the Mazda2 when it makes production.
The Mazda1 promises to be the first car from the Japanese automaker that utilizes the company's Nagare design theme. The Mazda1 will begin production in 2010, and Mazda officials say the small car will give a good indication of the styling for future models. The next Mazda3 is expected to bow sometime in 2010, so look for it to borrow some design cues from the Mazda1.
Mazda also announced that it will introduce a new model based on the Ford Kuga at this year's Moscow Motor Show. Although the new SUV will share its underpinnings with the Euro-spec Ford Kuga, look for the Mazda version to infuse it with a healthy dose of Nagare designs.
While the new model is intended for Russia — which Mazda believes will over take Germany as its largest European market — it could make its way to the States as it would be an attractive alternative to larger and less fuel-efficient SUVs.
