They're prob union jobs.  So the chances are they have some job protection thingie and would end up in another government position.

Or did the gov't outsource those toll booths job to the private sector?

that's kinda lame -- but not unexpected by the government.

Hopefully all the workers will find some vacancy spots to fill.

When it comes to "bumping" based on seniority, it sucks all around.
Whether you're the bumper or bumpee.

Mr Campbell is trying real hard to earn some votes...

Did anyone watched the new how he said "as of 1 o'clock today, toll at Coquihalla is gone for good"?

same tone (in excitement) as he announcing the carbon tax and carbon neutral BS!!

I agree on this point, unless the aux. staff can fill positions that no one else really wants.

In my opinion this was a scheme to get more votes on the upcoming election. They just spend $100,000 on upgrades to the buildings back in march, now they are tearing them down. They probably just made back that upgrade money, even if they did, before they said they are tearing them down. Now why the hell would you upgrade something if you are going to tear it down 6 months later?

So now the maintenance and emergency services, which I imagine are pretty expensive on this stretch of road, are coming out of everyone's pockets, and not out of the pockets of those who use the highway the most.
