I'm not much of a builder, but I will throw in the funds tet to make this happen. I've always wanted rig-shots of my car.

By the way, this is an incredible photo. The Black MS3 looks so sick and the backdrop is gorgeous!!

It's hard to take pictures of black cars.  I know...I have one Smiley  Having a rig would be nice, esp for shots like that.

Definitely need larger light sources. One umbrella with 580exII. Forget the power settings, etc. But basically the same setup on all 3 cars.

thats kinda cool.. never really thought about the difference in phototaking for different colours of cars.. obviously it's common sense that a black car wouldn't show up as much.  I've never seen a 3 way comparo like what derrick did though!  wonder how my car looks in the 'same' lighting.

The tradeoff is that if you could light my car better (bigger) it would reflect a lot more and you could really get a good shot of the curves. Kevin's car is easy to light, but looks very flat. You don't get the same specular highlights as you would on black.

Derrick's plate has changed since IIRC.

Derrick, nice comparison.

Picked up three 50kg rated aluminum cased suction cups today. Wink I'll make modifications to them so they'll be more suitable for our purpose.

These ones will rip the hood right off before they let go! LOL!! I'll work on a "cradle" for the camera sometime next week. As for everything in between, we'll save that for a day when we can all get together and brainstorm. Smiley

sweet, what kind of cradle do you have in mind?

basically, we can have as simple as just a 5/8" bolt then we can pretty much attach any tripod heads to it

Not much to look at but here's what I've got so far....

Three of these big ass suction cups

Love the name Wink

Chunk of aluminum channel for the camera "cradle" (it's strong and lightweight). The front edge will be notched out for the lens to stick through, and the back edge will be shaved down so you can see the display screen.

Would you guys prefer to have the camera attached via a quick release system? If so does anyone have a broken tripod they'd like to sacrifice?

I'd suggest a bolt, I wouldn't trust my camera to a quick release on a moving vehicle, perhaps I'm overly / unjustly cautious though.

whoa those look crazy.. if they're too strong, is there the possibility that they might PULL the metal with it (creating a bump)?
