There's not point yelling and screaming at someone if they dont' know that they are in the wrong.
wow from Jup....I am amazed. but you are right....we should do the one strike and you get yell at rule. or maybe instead of posting "welcome to the forum" in the new member section, we will post "welcome to the forum, be sure to use the search function before starting thread"...LOL

We are a welcoming community here. If we yelled at new members, this site would have failed a long time ago. I understand the frustration with redundant topics. However, in all honesty I'm not losing that much time by pressing the back button or scrolling past the thread in question. If one wishes to help a member, do so. Lashing out at a member seriously harms the potential for this site to grow and for that member to become a valued contributor here. Kev

I don't quite catch what is your point on the first few sentences (and quoting my post). We never yelled (yelling on forum = CAP LOCK)at a member.... yes it isn't much time for ONE member to post repeated questions, but lately we have more then one. And that adds up. If this continues the site will grow....but the growth of cluttering/useless posts.

lol. Thought I was going crazy or something For those people who might not know, if searching for an item while in a thread, the search function will only search that thread. Click on the main forum view to search all content within the forum. Kev

lol don, u only point of what's written out. But when i said yelling or lashing, etc, whatever i wrote, its directed to the posts from members that don't add to the topic or even hint the violator in the right direction. i think derek had a good line, where the nudge in the right direction by pointing out searching with these terms would work. heck, maybe there should be a post where HOW TO USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION so we dont' run into, the search function sucks. oops i yelled, sorry

Be nice, but be firm. No point in harassing anyone.
If you keep helping them in every way possible, then they become dependent and expect answers every-time they post something. Instead, help them to seek the answers they need rather than holding their hand and giving them the answers directly.
The senior users and moderators will always be there for answering questions, no matter how many times they've been asked the same question. But I guess it gets tiring. Let users know that they can be reliant on themselves and on the knowledge of this forum, but also let them know that we are here to help them if they can't find what their looking for.
It's a learning process, not only for the new members of our community, but for the most senior members as well.

Nothing says "use the search button" more effectively then a members head sitting on a pike outside the City walls. Discussion boards in the dark ages never had these problems.
meh.....
