hi all, I need some help with my Mazda 5 navigation user settings.  When I set the map mode to auto, according to the manual, the map should switch to night mode when the headlights are on and the map should switch to day mode when the headligts are off.  The problem is that when it is on auto setting, the map is always on day mode no matter whether the headlights are on or off.  Does anyone have this problem?  The map is too bright for me during the night and I don't want to keep changing the day / night settings during the day and during the night.  Thanks in advance

Hi all.  Can someone with 2008 / 2009 Mazda 5 Nav help me to verify that when the nav user settings, map mode is switched to Auto that the map will automatically switch to night mode when the headlights are turned on / at night?  I'm trying to figure out whether it's a problem with my system and whether I should take it in for service.  Thanks

I don't have a Mazda5, but the NAVI on my CRV has the same function, BUT, it has a manual override which is done by adjusting the brightness of the dash gauges.  If your dash brightness is maxed out, then it overrides this function on the NAVI.  Turn down the brightness 1 notch, then the auto function works on the NAVI.  Try going through your owners manual again and see if the Mazda5 shares this function.

my guess is that you have the manual dimmer overide switch on, If it is than your gauge will always be bright. Try pressing the dimmer switch. Just to let you know the dimmer switch has two functions when it comes to auto lights. You can turn it clockwise or counter clockwise to dim the instrument lights, but you can also click it on and off for having it bright all the time.

It pays to RTFM.  But don't worry, I thought mine was busted too until I RTFM'd as well.
