Hi All, if I want to rotate my wheels, what's the best way to jack up my Mazda 5 and place 4 jack stands under the jacking points (so that the entire car is sitting on the jack stands)? Where's the best location to use a floor jack? Many people say that I shouldn't use the jacking points and I heard that a 2 ton floor jack will not be able to lift the entire front end or rear end up. Thanks in advance.

It depends on the ground clearance of the Mazda5 and what's the lift height of your jack. My 2 ton jack only has 12" of lift and that is not enough to lift my CRV and change a wheel. Not sure what the ground clearance is on your Mazda5. My 3 ton has 18" and that's just enough for the CRV. My 3.5 ton has 22" of lift.
If I only had a 2 ton, I'd just take my time, pull out the spare tire and do it one by one. I wouldn't bother jacking up each corner to put a stand and then jacking it back up to take out the stand. When I use my 3 or 3.5 ton on my mazda, if I jack the front, it's enough to lift the entire side of the car, so I just swap the front and the back out at the same time.

Thanks for the info IMASA, but should I use the floor jack on the jacking points? If not, I don't know the exact location where I can jack up my Mazda 5. I only know it's about where the lower control arm are attached to (near the centre of the front / rear of vehicle).

Yeah you can use the floor jacks on the jacking points. I love Hondas because they have a dedicated jacking plate that sticks out so you don't ding the frame rail or whatever it's called. The one on my Mazda is re-enforced, but it does get a bit dinged up when you use a floor jack to jack up the car. Else you can jack up from the subframe.

if you are just rotating front to back, with a good jack...you can jack up one side of the car in one go. Put the jack stand on the side for safety.

For rotating tires, isn't better to cross the tires? (eg front left to rear right, front right to rear left) My tires are 17inch factory Toyo proxes tires and I don't think they are uni-directional.

I just checked my floor jack and it only goes up to 13 9/16 inches. Not sure whether it has enough lift to change the tires. This jack is one of those cheapo ones (about $30).

Traditional tire rotation is front to back (same side) then cross next.

I would suggest using the spare tire and jack up one corner at a time.

you'll be fine with jacking up the one side of the car to do the tire rotation. I've done it many times on the 3 and my SUV with no issues. If you're worried, put some jackstands underneath for the "just in case".
