I'm going to bite the bullet and finally try to start my picture thread. Hopefully this will help me improve with honest critiques and the odd much needed pat on the back  I'll start this off with a chance picture of the moon I took on Saturday night. July 6, 2009 @ ~10:19pm  http://www.flickr.com/photos/22744668@N06/3606210023/No colour adjustments. 100% crop down to 510x510 from 3888x2592 (10 mp). I did add a little extra sharpening and fiddled with the clarity slider in Camera Raw 4.6 (note date/time on my camera was still on EST, so the date and time in the pic is off by 3 hours) Dunno if there's really much to comment on this photo.. as it is what it is. Lucky chance that I looked up and saw the lollipop in the sky. |

shit mang I was trying to capture it for a friend on Sunday night but when I went home to get my camera there was too much cloud cover...
wut lens and focal length did u use?
and any special reasons why the moon was so orange?

It's clear tonight, so you might have some luck. There were rolling clouds on Saturday night. I had to wait for it to come back out of the clouds after I got my cam/lens/tripod/trigger all set up =P had to keep running back into the house for each 1 piece individually =P Kept forgetting.
focal length was 300mm (on a 1.6x crop body).
I used an f-stop of 11.
shutter length 1/3s
ISO 200 (wanted to see if a slower shutter length gave a sharper image due to moving atmospheric distortions, earth rotation, moon rotation, moon movement and potential vibrations in the ground from vehicles driving on 49th ave, as I was in the back alley by it). I didn't see much of a diff, but this one seemed to turn out the best.. but my vision is quite poor.
I tried a few different ones, and didn't really find too much of a difference in sharpness.

I'm using the Canon EF 70-300 f/4-5.6 IS USM.
The first version of it. There's another one of the exact same spec (as far as those above numbers are concerned), but it looks different and is newer.
