Talk to your dealership... they'll put you in another car until it's fixed.  Sad

Already? Like a complete recall of all the 5's? Weird.

You should get an RX-8 to drive. Grin

Here's the official statement from Mazda North America :

The exhaust system of the MAZDA5 could have a safety-related problem that may cause a fire. Although only three instances have been reported, and there have been no injuries, Mazda will be initiating an aggressive campaign to repair all of the approximately 2,700 affected vehicles. Customers will receive a formal recall notification at a later date.

Mazda today began requesting all MAZDA5 owners contact their local Mazda dealers to initiate the repair process as soon as possible. Mazda will provide all customers with replacement transportation at no cost.

I've seen about 4 other Mazda5's this weekend, so obviously it's not an "aggressive" recall up here in Canada.  In the USA dealers are phoning the owners.  If my baby gets scratched sitting on their lot, there's going to be hell to pay!

I'm not concerned about the recall, I know Mazda will fix it and do a good job of it.  In the meantime I'll beat the hell out of this rental.  Smiley

They sent me to a rental place, where I got a DODGE CARAVAN.  Suffice it to say I am not happy with that and have given them hell about it... I want a 3!  Smiley

ETA for completion is unknown, could be more than a month!

Are you kidding?  The 5 is hot!  No really... and now we have proof.  In fact they have recalled them in favour of making them less hot, due to risk of burning up.  Too hot.  Not cool enough though.

That is all. Werd

Just got off the phone with my Mazda dealership and they told me that it has something to do with a "bolt" on the exhaust??? really weird....this was the sales guy that I was talking to but he told me to call the Service Manager first thing in the morning and get the real scoop.

Says that a letter should've been sent out...said not to really worry about it.

Keep you all posted and I talk to them tomorrow....

Seriously, M5 - call Mazda Canada.  Don't listen to your dealer if he tells you it's "nothing major".

Mazda USA is treating this recall VERY seriously.  There has yet to be a fire in a Canadian Mazda5.

But Canada gets the same 5's as the USA, don't we?

Spoke to the Service Manager at Freeway Mazda in Surrey...says that the USA have different emission standards than Canada...we're more strict here. He did say that there hasn't been a case in Canada YET.

Asked him about the ETA for the fix. Says that he couldn't tell me as he doesn't have all the info yet...they said they would put us in a rental vehicle until it was fixed...they even offered to pick up the Mazda5 via tow truck if needed.

Doesn't sound like they know what the actual fix is!

I'm dealing with Freeway as well... listen to Dave.  Smiley  There is no fix yet, estimating 2-4 weeks, but you can take your chances on your vehicle starting on fire if you want.  I'd rather be safe.

If they're gonna give you a rental to beat on, might as well take it in. Even if its just a minor fix, they're paying the bill and it will save wear and tear on your 5.
