Mazda is planning a baby brother for its iconic MX-5, which will be badged the MX-2.
Our illustration shows what the MX-2 is likely to look like showing strong design influences from Mazda’s Furai concept car.

A line-up of new small engines, apparently ranging from 0.7 to 1.6-litres, will power the MX-2 moving. A range-topping 1.6-litre turbo will thrust out an expected 120kW.

A concept version of the roadster is due soon, while official sales of the MX-2 will kick off in 2012.

I just hope Mazda doesn't get unreasonable with the price.

IMO, the MX-5 is getting a bit too pricey for a weekend car. I believe it goes for $30-35k or something.

I agree.  With that retractable hard top, I think it was hitting $40k    Sad

I'm hoping the MX2 will target the original Miata market -- cheap, affordable fun with great handling

When my friend bought his '06 MX-5 he got a demo model and still ended up paying almost $36K. Quite ridiculous if you ask me. I drove the car, and while it was fun, I don't see it worth that kind of money. I would rather drop $36K on a Speed3. More power and more functionality.

Pretty damn cool.  It looks like the concept turns the clock back on the Miata about 20 years -- in a good way.  Small roadster powered by a 1.6 litre engine.  Sure sounds familiar...

the stupid mouth still is... stupid, but the headlights work nicely with the long hood.

They finally realized how retardedly huge the current MX5 is and decided to make a compact roadster again?
