Anyone know where I can get a reasonably priced SB800/SB900. I've tried countless auctions on Ebay and have had little success with Craig's List. WTF is the deal with used SB800s?

they are ridiculously hard to find (and swooped up fast), as with SB600's as well.  I gave up and bought an SB900 from london drugs (they were having a 10% off flashes sale then).

Sb800's have been discontinued... they're nowhere to be found now.

i think a small camera shop at willowbrook mall may have a couple left.  Last time I looked they did have them on display.  You're better off buying the sb800 new if you really want it.  Personally I'd spring for the sb900.  I know it's expensive but it'll last you through a few camera bodies should you decide to change up in the future...plus the plethora of features.  I have the sb600 now...which is all I need at the moment but would spring for the 900 rather than the 800

I have both.  I think it's silly the prices ppl are asking for used SB800's, often more than what they paid for them new.  Flashes don't last forever like lenses.

The SB900 has a way better user interface, recycles faster on 4 batteries, but it's freaking huge and has some issues where it shuts down due to over heating protection.  I didn't realize this until my first shoot and my SB900 died on me, I thought it was my batteries since it was the first time I used Sanyo Eneloops and I never had such problems with my SB800.  You can turn that feature off.

I paid around $330 last year for a SB800 and around $520 for the SB900.  I'd buy a new SB900 than an over priced used SB800.

my SB400 did that on me.  It got so bloody hot that it just stopped working.  You're lucky you got those prices....nikon raised their prices quite a bit on their equipment.  Kinda good in a way if you are trying to unload some equipment but crappy if you're lookin to buy.

Willowbrook huh, maybe I should give them a call. I'd be very surprised if they have one.
