This may be in the wrong section - so please move as needed.

I have a 1994 Mazda Protege, auto, that I drive during the winter. About a year ago, I replaced the driver side CV axle with a rebuilt unit. The rebuilt unit turned out to be crap as it vibrated under acceleration and boot came off in less than 1 year. I proceeded to purchasing a new CV, but to make a long story short, I can't get the old one out.

Now, I am not new to cars and especially not the older Mazdas. I have several engine swaps, turbo installs, engine builds etc under my belt. I have used everything on this axle from crow bars, to thick chisels, to sledge hammers. After 10hrs of messing with it I am done. The rebuilt POS probably has a snap ring our of spec or the vibrating axle warped the shaft/splines causing it to be stuck. The transmission case is this close from cracking due to the abuse from trying to get this thing out. Never seen anything like it.

Anyhow, I have decided to re-assemble the car and take it to a shop. I NEVER go to shops and I have no idea what is good or bad. I want someone experienced, not an 18 year old because frankly they will fail. An older, family owned type of shop is preferred since again I don't think a large shop will mess with it nor do I think they will get it out.

Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance!

The last time we ran into this we had to change transmission cause it was an auto and it was cheaper than taking apart putting together. The problem is the after market c clip opens too wide in the diff. There was a time once where we were able to punch thru the right side with a long punch.gl to you

Yup, never again on aftermarket shit. The clamp that holds the boot on the tranny side is crimped and the crimp hits the tranny housing. This is how I lost the boot. Now, all I could do was repack the bearing and I will try and see if I can get a flat cv clamp that wont come off. There is no way to get through the other side with a punch, the spider gear pinion is in the way.

Lesson to learn boys and girls, in most cases aftermarket parts DO NOT work as intended. I have ran into this too many times with too many different parts. Pay the premium and go OEM.

yea you can slide something thin in between spider gear shaft but it has to be really thin and strong enough to punch thru, did this off car though. More likely it will not work cause most are stuck pretty good

Even aftermarket body parts are crap. My dad got a headlight, hood, and bumper for the one he's rebuilding. The hood doesn't line up like it should (granted it is close, but no where near stock fit). The headlight doesn't fit exactly right, and the bumper is close, but not quite. Aftermarket just gets close to OEM, but it will never be the same. Granted that they are less than half the price though, so it isn't all that bad.
