Is anyone going to get forza 3 this fall?  The  mz 3 hatch was in forza 2.  Hoping the Speed3 is in the third version. Would be cool to have the cyber version of this club racing our 3s at Nuremberg ring or laguna seca

I will be picking up Forza 3, but not online.  Forza1 has the M3 sport too.

I just spend about 40 minutes with the Forza 3 demo.  Kind of cool, but they picked a pretty difficult track for n00bs like me.  Methinks it was done to showcase the visuals (it's a pretty valley/canyon race track).  And I should hook up my steering wheel.

They let you pick from a Mini Cooper S JCW, Evo X (JDM), Ferrari California, R8 and a Porsche Race Car, so a nice spread of drivetrain layouts + power.

I believe it's running at 60fps - certainly very smooth.  The physics simulation claims to be running at 360Hz (I believe Forza 2 was 240Hz), and they have some nice data logging for a variety of your usual things like suspension deflection, tire wear/temps/pressure, throttle data, some really basic powertrain stuff (boost, HP, torque, etc.) - the usual from Forza.  It's all presented quite nicely.

The game looks better than FM2, but does it look better than GT5?  Hate to make the comparison, but it was in the back of my mind.  And, I'm not so sure.  Certainly, the game looks better in motion than in still images and on its own, it is still very pleasing to the eye.  As I've said before - something about the lighting.

Sounds pretty good, too, though everything about the car seems a bit exaggerated and environment stuff (wind buffeting, steady state tire noise) are down.  Artistic discretion, I guess.  Turbo spooling is really, really obvious on some cars when it shouldn't be...

... such as the MS3.  It's too high-pitched, but I like how they caught the WOT suction sound.  Anyhow, the car isn't playable in the demo, but you race against it if you choose the Mini.  I did my race and followed the MS3 in replay.  Interestingly enough (or not), they did not implement the boost limiting in the first two gears (goes to 15.6psi all the time), nor did they seem to cut boost during steering.  It hits a full ~263hp in first gear and it seems the power doesn't fall off as rapidly as posted dyno sheets show after 5800rpm.  So in theory, the car should be faster in the game (or burn through tires like they were dry brush).  This assumes they didn't implement the engine falling out or transmission popping out of second gear on hard braking.

As a rival side note - GT5 was announced w/ an official estimated release date of March 2010 in Japan.  Forza 3 comes out October 26.

wow that is a tough track! hard not to get loose in the downhill straight after the first turn. looks like there is a larger circuit to that track. What a tease the demo is. love the Audi.
