Found this on m3f.  It was quite an eye-opener for me as i thought the Bel Air would fair much better in the collision.

A few side thoughts:
- sad to see that they would smash up a relative rare '59 Bel Air for this demostration
- I wonder if there is significant metal fatigue in the body of the Bel Air which would contribute to its poor showing, given that the car is 40 years old.

I don't think metal fatigue has a significant roll in the destruction of the Bel Air. They were built bulky but mostly hollow space....nothing more than a tin car....plus doing  an offset collision which help their chance either.

I'm with Don. Back in the day there was little focus on safety measures. Crumple zones, airbags etc did not exist back in the day. This is a testament to how far vehicle safety has come in 50 years.

Ford Explorer's safety rating sucks as well .... A pillar busted upon collision .... should be able to find it on youtube as well.

I also remember when they use to make cars very solid....unfortunately, the vehicle would stay in great shape.....but all the force was transferred to the occupants.....
