Several dealers do not want the Mazda2, they believe it will undercut their Mazda3 sales. Idiots! |

They can't compete with models that are $10-$15k without bringing this car over here. Dealers are dumb. Sure, would be nice to sell everyone a 3 but how do you get people into the brand who have less than $15k and want a new car. Do they want them to buy a Hyundai or Toyota or Honda? It was like this back in the 90's, everyone wanted a civic hatchback because it was cheap and easy to customize. Then everything went to 2 door coupes and 4 doors. Some brands have brought back the hatchback design, but North Americans supposedly don't like them. Mazda sold plenty of those 2 door hatchbacks (I think it was called the 3 still) back in the 90's for like $8888. That was their favorite number I recall posted in all the newspapers and posters.

They really missed the boat on the Mazda 2 If they brought it over like 2-3 years ago they would have stolen more than half of the Honda Fit sales easily. Not to mention the echo, yaris, etc...
I do remember being given that rationale about the Mazda 2 stealing mazda 3 sales. They are right to an extent. I would have saved my cash and picked up a 2 easily if it was available.
