On the mazda.ca website, it mentions that the MZ2 will be launched in North America in late summer of 2010.  Not sure if that model is the same or different to the Eurospec one.

I don't know if I'm just making a big deal out of it, but the first thing I noticed was the lack of fold-flat rear seats.  I figure that would be a big deal with hatchbacks these days.  It's one of my personal space configuration gripes about the Mazda3 hatch that they seemed to fix/improve in the current generation.  Plus, the Fit's awesome "Magic Seat" doesn't help either.

I agree.  Fold flat seats or fail. So many small car makers have figured out the tricks to extending space inside.  There's no excuse not to have the interior sorted out.

Just received an email, they announced pricing:

You’ve seen the exterior of the all-new 2011 MAZDA2, and you’ve scoped the interior. But what sort of features does the only car with 100% Zoom-Zoom. Concentrated. have? Well, for starters, it has more front legroom than Fit, Yaris or Versa, so your friends will stay happy. Plus, standard Dynamic Stability Control (DSC)* and Traction Control System (TCS) will only give you added confidence when
you’re claiming those curves.

All that and more for just $13,995†. Check out all the goods on 2011MAZDA2.ca, and keep checking your inbox for the latest Zoom-Zoom. Concentrated. news.

$14k is a good price point for the MZ2.  IIRC, the base MZ3 sedan starts at around $16k.

http://www.canadiandriver.com/2010/05/10/buyers-guide-2011-mazda-mazda2.htm

An all-new model for Canada and the U.S., the 2011 Mazda2 is the company’s first entry in the subcompact segment.

The Mazda2 comes strictly as a four-door hatchback, and uses a 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine with five-speed manual transmission or optional four-speed automatic. Trim lines are the GX, GS, and the Yozora trim package, which is limited to 500 units and is strictly for the Canadian market.

Features on the GX include 15-inch steel wheels, tilt steering wheel, power door locks, power windows with driver’s auto up/down, power mirrors, covered vanity mirrors, manual driver’s seat height adjustment, 60/40 split-folding rear seat, illuminated entry, 12-volt power outlet, floor mats, black door handles and mirrors, intermittent rear wiper, brake override system, and CD/MP3 stereo with auxiliary input and two speakers.

Available options on the GX include air conditioning, and a Convenience Package of cruise control, keyless entry, trip computer, four speakers, body-colour door handles and mirrors, exterior temperature gauge and steering wheel-mounted audio controls.

The GS adds air conditioning, automatic headlamps, cruise control, rain-sensing wipers, keyless entry, trip computer, leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls, cloth door trim, sport-style cloth seats with red piping, body-colour door handles and mirrors, chrome tailpipe finisher, side sill extensions, body-colour rear spoiler, exterior temperature gauge, fog lights, silver finish interior accents, and six speakers.

The Yozora, which means “night sky” in Japanese, is based on the GX trim with air conditioning and convenience package, and adds a black exterior finish with “2” themed decal on the driver’s side front bumper and fender, along with raised spoiler, stub antenna, chrome tailpipe, tailgate badge, unique floor mats, and special-edition 16-inch alloy wheels in silver and black with Toyo Proxes T1R performance tires, along with 15-inch steel wheels with winter tires.

Trim Transmission MSRP* Destination**

GX Manual 5 Speed $13,995 $1,395
GS Manual 5 Speed $18,195 $1,395
Yozora Manual 5 Speed $19,280 $1,395

These cars are packaged very well and make cars like the Yaris seem redundant.

Interesting how the Yozora comes with both winter and summer wheels & tires.

If I were to get one I would get it the GX in pearl white with auto, AC and conv. pkg.  It would be around $17,200.  Anyone interested in a speed6?

Financing rates are out, although not yet disclosed on websites.  1.9% up to 60 months.  They should be here by the end of June.

It's up on Mazda sites for Build & Price, the GX and GS model pricing is pretty damn far apart.

Yeah,  it's a really big price gap between the two.  I'm surprised that there is no in-between model
