Where did you 'hear' this from?  This would be everywhere in the news if it were true, much like it was mandated in Quebec a little while back.

The only thing I know of is that you could receive a fine if you drive on a road where something like this is posted:

Quote
Use Winter Tires or Carry Chains Beyond this Point, October 1 - April 30

... and you don't have winter tires or carry chains.

But if you have pure summer tires on, insurance can be voided if your vehicle is not equipped to handle the weather and involved in an accident.

I'm pretty sure that your insurance will not be void but you could be found at fault ...would be like saying your insurance will be void for not properly maintaining your brakes.

We need Ice tires over snow tires right?  I read reviews on teh 3 offered tires, I remember hearing that the Xice dont work with our car, so would I be good with wintersloalms or winterforces?

My dad had Xice's on his grandprix and they were fantastic.

why doesn't x-ice work with our car?

The only tire that I know which does not work well on our car is the crap-year RS-A   Grin

Im not sure I thought I saw a bad review on them for the mazda 3.  Maybe im crazy, looked up to mant tires and called to many places. Maybee Ill get an Xice just to make up a review for them haha.  1010 just gave them a shitty review on snow. lol

I have post-it notes and notes on pads of paper from work all over hte place with pricing and locations.

You maybe right......me thinks your tires don't suddenly turned into summer tires. So it is the owner's responsibility to ensure proper tires are used at all time...that is why they have all seasons tires.

I change mine late november/early december.  I've seen bad reviews on the X-ice on the 3
(something about it being designed more as an ice tire rather than snow).
Nokian hakkapelitta's and WR series seem to have positive reviews (I own WRG2), along with Hankook Icebears.  The Blizzaks I found to be 50/50, some are happy, some are not.

I found last year driving to and from work I dealt with more Ice/Black Ice/ Packed ice and snow. then deep snow. Only real amounts of snow i found were on my street.  I was also considering teh Euro Winters. But they would be 824.14 + a set of steel wheels (80 a pice + tax)

We dont really get snow here, we get some snow, then it packs and freezes over night then its ice the next day.
