 Afro

Don't have pix...

But Yesturday I saw this compact ( I "think" it was a prius.. but I may be mistaken....)  I was too caught off guard by his wheels to remember the car..

His right side front and rear wheels/tires looked lik they were 13"  scooter wheels or something !!!   And his left side was stock.
His entire car was shifted to the side obviously leaning hard because of the gimp stumps he had on the right.

Why on earth wouldn't you just take a bus until you fixed it up?!     Seriously....  that's gotta be doing more harm than good.

That will blow the diff's/transmission very fast due to the speed diference that the wheels have to spin at.

The Prius has an open differential and an automatic transmission.  It would be fine.

The better thing to do would have been to put same-sized tires on the same axles and preferably the stock-sized tires on the drive axle.

Old thread from the dead.

Running different size tires like that would be bad even for an open diff.

They normally only function when going around corners.

Having the spiders in constant motion is not really a good thing.  Just not designed for it.

Plus the pin that holds them in will want to escape the carrier housing

It would certainly warm up the differential and would likely affect the brake sensor readings too.  Hopefully it wasn't driven far.

It's good advice for newbies who may be tempted to replicate the feat.

really? if someone thinks its a good idea to run 2 completely differnt rim/tyre sizes, they should hand in their license and get a bus pass.

It happens more than you might think.  Especially on the same axle.

There too!  But it's a Canada wide thing.  I don't live in Edmonton but it happens here too.  They put a regular size spare rim and tire on a raised 4x4 with big rims and tires and tear out the differential.  $$$$$
What else can I say.  My mechanic friend says it helped put his daughters through school!

I had a guy a.d his dad come in looking at tires for a 95, Dodge Dakota, when I asked what size,he said he swan't sure because it currently had 3 different sizes on it.They didn't have the vehicle with them so I don't know how "different" they were, but still.

There are many who would contest that.  I believe we have more sky-high, propane injected hopped-up diesel 4x4s per capita than Edmonton and possibly anywhere else.

We are feeling pretty spunky today aren't we?  How's the youngster?  Back in fine form like his Dad, I hope.
