figure I'd pipe in.   But first off, I'm NOT great with electrical, so please forgive me.

Derrick: Everyone seems to think that if one LED goes out, then you can "just replace the one LED".   That would be true, but only in a "perfect" world.   I'm not trying to debate with you, but the car manufacturers are out to make money, and I've seen many LED tail lamps where it's the circuit board that f*cks up.   BUT in regards to that "one LED replacement", most of the time, you're buying the whole UNIT.. and that's big bucks.   They're not going to make adjustable intensity for LED headlights; it wouldn't be a far stretch for someone to file a lawsuit because there wasn't a fine print saying that "dimming your headlight in the dark can cause accidents".   Sorry, once again.. NOT trying to pick an argument.   Just the reality of the business.

Correct me if I'm wrong guys (once again, my lack of electrical knowledge), but I thought that LEDs were supposed to run cooler?

I've never liked the LED "driving lights"..   How many Audi's have you guys seen with one side completely out?   I've seen quite a few on the road, and I'd hate to be replacing a unit once the warranty is over..

I have never seen any Audis with their LED strips out nor have I heard of any instances where they are going out.

Are you sure you're not seeing the car when it's turning? When the turn signal indicator is on the car's LEDs will turn off on the side that is being indicated.

^i hate that.. I believe it was chrysler who introduced the concept of turning off the DRL when turning.  The car looks retarded when there's one led eyebrow on.

Dkaz: I'm not sure how much a headlight unit would cost, esp if it was an Audi one with the LED strip.   But let's put it this way... to replace ONE control unit for ONE Xenon headlight is going to run you a MINIMUM of $800 (depending on the brand of car).   To change ONE Xenon bulb at a dealer would cost you almost $200 (depending on the brand of car).

Username: I can honestly say that I have seen a small handful of AUDI's with one side burnt out, and they were all going straight (in the opposing traffic lane).   Could also be because my route of travel to/from work is around the AUDI dealer on boundary.

dmogx: the only instance of lights coming on while turning that I like are the fog lights (aka: "cornering lights' as dubbed by Mercedes).

That's odd. We own the dealer on Boundary. I'll definitely have the parts and service guys if these instances are as frequent and expensive as you purport them to be.

Out of curiousity, where are you getting your numbers from? I'm guessing you are in the industry then.

username: yes, I do work in the industry.   But please do note that I did NOT mention seeing any of those audis GOING to the dealership.   My normal travel route happens to take me close to the Audi dealer.

I guess one of my points about the whole pricing part is simply that there's a different story behind OWNING a vehicle that's got all that technology behind it.   People see the tech and think that it's better, it's more efficient and MIGHT even think it's cost-saving (LED lasting longer, you can chance ONE individual bulb,etc..).   Just more of an "FYI" on my end, really.

oh.. and it was ONE xenon headlight CONTROL UNIT that would run you a minimum of $800... my bad.

Anyways.. sorry if I'm hijacking the thread now... back to the car.

There is a 2011 Audi A8 TDi at the Harbour Centre on Hastings.  It has the Bi-Xenons.  It looks so much better in person.  Complete with German plates.
