My dads trading in his 03 accord and wants another one, but i told him to check out the new altima. apples to apples they look the same. hes paying cash so no need for which one is a better rate. i really like the new altima, looks, features etc. i think the accord is kinda old man-ish.

thoughts?

are you looking at the coupe or sedan?

My dad has the Altima coupe with CVT... I suggest you avoid CVT unless he wants a cruiser car.
It's a good alternative, and the fit and finish is nice.  It's starting to grow on me since I've been using it for the last week and well, I like it.

The accord.  It's a relatively new model in it's (2nd?) year of production currently.  The altima was facelifted recently, but it was so subtle that no one even realized the difference.  I remember reading about the subtle facelift on autoblog. I'm also skeptical about Nissan's because my brother had an 02 altima, which ate more engine oil than a rotary.  He was lucky that it was a lease, so he returned it (IIRC, it received a new engine because of that engine oil eating recall)

Maxima?  6?  There's a lot of cars in that segment.

I wouldn't call the Accord much of an old man car more than a boat on wheels. It's huge. It used to be tops in my list until the EX and EX-L no longer came with manual transmission. I've seen a few manual EX-L sedans, talk about sick.

If I were shopping in that class, I'd be only looking at the Accord, Mazda 6 and Ford Fusion.

Fusion's interior (and most domestic) is a big turn off. Sad

You haven't sat in a 2010 Fusion then.

yes they had come a long way but the on-going use of 4 spoke steer wheel = dated. That is purely my opinion, you don't have to agree. Wink

after having my ranger for 5 months, i hate it. not to say all fords are equal across the board. but it been in and had 3 window motors replaced, torsion bar and cv boot. and it only has 11K on it. plus the interior finish is lack luster at best.

Although I'm not a big fan of American cars, the Ford Fusion Hybrid looks like a winner.
