BCMazda3.com December 2009 Meet - Christmas Hamper Donation Drive - Dec 20th

It's Christmas time again!

This year, BCMazda3.com will be hosting our 1st Christmas Hamper Donation Drive.
We have adopted a family through the VPD that has survived through some severe domestic violence and abuse and is in need of some caring hearts to make their Christmas wishes come true!

Our adopted family is a single mom with two boys, an 8 month old and an 8 years old, and resides in the downtown area.  I have been in contact with the family to determine what they need, but the mom feels bad asking for anything and just wants her boys to have their wishes come true for Christmas.  I managed to get a few details:

• The 8 year old's Christmas Wish is to get a Nintendo DS.
• Clothing and toys for the 8 month old
• Her 8 year old enjoys eating at Earl's

Although the mom wasn't willing to ask for any essentials or anything for herself, we're are definitely looking at options such as gift certificates to grocery stores to help her out as well as something like a spa gift certificate to spoil herself.

We are hoping that our community can get together and make their wishes come true.  I know if we have the turn out and the generosity that we have seen in our food drives, we can definitely make it a special Christmas during their difficult time.  If you have any ideas for the Christmas Hamper, please feel free to post in this thread.

We will collecting donations on Dec 20th at Kwantlen Univeristy College Richmond Campus from 1pm to 6pm.  We will probably purchase some of the goods for the Hamper prior to this date, so cash donations will be accepted as well as other types of donations, just keep updated on this thread so we don't have duplicates.

We will also be going for dinner at a location to be decided during the meet.

We will also update this thread with prizes and how your donation = # tickets to win.

PS: If we can't make it to the actual meet for whatever reason would we still be able to make monetary donations via paypal to someone, then that person can give that amount of money on behalf of the member who could not make it?

Jason, do you have the boy's names so that we can label the gifts appropriately?

As for mom, I'm going to vote against a spa day and lean more to the side of focusing on necessities. Gift cards to full-service or department stores would be more useful (Wal-Mart, Sears, The Bay etc).

Does she use public transit? We could get her bus passes? As for gift cards, find out what is close to her that she can easily access. I am with Kev, skip the spoiling and focus on necessities.
