I am loving the SVT Raptor. Amazing truck. It really needs nothing. Although I'm sure much much more power could be extracted from that 6.2L V8.

RJ: Crawl under your car and tell me what most of it is stamped with.

What is so special about this truck?

Graphics, lifted, few other goodies. What is hiding underneath that F-150 body that makes it so desirable?

A fantastic suspension capable of taking this truck on high-speed off-road excurions while maintaining on-road livability.

IIRC, a stock version of this truck finished 3rd in it's class in the Baja vs purpose built trucks.

I don't think anyone is singing it's praises because of a lift kit and some graphics.

I think this article from Autoblog does a good job explaining the significance of the SVT Raptor.

Quote
Allow us the latitude to compare the Raptor to the Porsche 997. Twenty-five years ago, if you could pilot your 911 in serious anger – heaven forbid it was a turbo – over a snaking bit of road with which you weren't familiar and not end up ass-end forward, you had done something. Now a guy in an automatic 997 could do that same stretch of road faster while making dinner reservations and changing his XM presets and, Gott in Himmel, braking mid-corner. The scale of progress and the ability for Mr. Average to do what were once momentous things is impressive. The loss of that former frightening thrill does make us lament just the teensiest, tiniest bit.

After a day kicking up all kinds of Anza Borrego dust, the Raptor is to those previous modes of high-speed off-road running what the 997 is to the classic 911. What's more, it is to other hardcore off-road trucks what the 997 is to other sports cars. Yes, we said it. And we've spent a week debating and thinking about it. That's our finding.

Ah, I remember this truck now. Was wondering what the big deal was.

But the Raptor used in the Baja was race modified and not like the one posted above.

HA! I know this already. Just like to pretend it's not. I myself am a fan of the SVT series.

wow. Mr Kev jumped all over the info for that...   haha  And as far as I know you nailed all those points.

It is quite the impressive machine indeed. Far from something such as the typical "FX4" stickered "off-road" packages with a rear locker and a sticker.

From what I've read it does sound like it will be pretty easy to juice them up with fairly reasonable mods... But how many people would need to.... the 6.2 will come 411 hp 434'ish torque?  capable of 100+ mph on offfffff road terrain. (infact intended for that)

and yeah STOCK they are ready for baja racing and that one did come third. which is impressive.
Most people are saying... with what it comes with stock.... dollar for dollar you can't beat that... building your own rig from scratch.

As for "Ford" our families only had one...  2004 f150 4x4 lariat... not the most powerful... but to date I can only remember needing the brakes done.... otherwise its been quite reliable..  i don't recall what's on the odometer... somewhere around 150k+ by now I would imagine.

Our neighbors I think have 3 ford pickups... all used for heavy duty work... never heard of any issues there either. But I won't deny I've read tons and tons about all the problems people have had with fords. I've yet to see it in person... (But have heard lots of mechanics talk about all the fords they see) Sometimes I wonder if thats just because so many fords are sold and so many people abuse them thinking the fx4 sticker means "indestructible"

But yeah, theres not really anything compareable to the raptor currently.... in a niche of it's own really.. I wouldn't compare em to the power wagons or the TRD's n such..

Some of the new technology in this truck seems pretty impressive.. and I've read on the raptor forums a lot of impressive customer/owner stories with them in off roading and winter experiences so far.

Gotta say the thought of owning Camaro Vs owning Raptor did cross my mind.  But maybe that was just bitterness about being stranded in this rotten weather. lol        Actually truth be told. I inquired into purchasing a Raptor before I had the camaro... just didn't wanna wait for one and nobody had one that I could physically see back then. Plus I figured... childhood craving for a muscle car > new fascination with a first in the market baja truck.

If I could have two vehicles... I wouldn't hesitate...    But then I want an audi a5/s5.....   a speed 3... a ruckus... a harley...

I want toys Sad

Was it ? I thought it was stock. But then I've only read about that one on various sites. Never can rely on the internets.

The two above are different models.   First pic is the 5.4 v8

The second....   was either the 6.2 concept... or another one with even more goodies geared towards racing.

Who designed the engine, Ford or Mazda?  Doesn't one of the Volvo models have the same platform and engine too?

When I was in Detroit last August, I went to the Ford factory and saw these being built along side the regular F-150's. Very nice for sure.
