Checked out a Raptor in person today... Looked a lot better in person than in pictures... Some of the exterior features just don't get represented well in photo form.

All the functional vents stand out much more and look way better in person. The width of the truck is intense !! Much more noticeable face to face.. Saw it side by side with a regular f150. Although the height was not as noticeable as I had anticipated.

One I saw was orange. Think I am more impressed with Blue/black and even white. Don't like orange in general. Really neat intro screen on the nav inside. Dig all the AUX buttons for aftermarket add's. Comfy inside. Sexy 35" rubbers. Looks way more beastly than the average 150 all round. Also really dig the dual side exhaust.

Didn't "sound" all that impressive but then it's got the same 5.4 triton in it as we already have at home in our 150 lariat..  I am sure the 6.2 would be more attractive.

Overall, a sexy truck. Had people loitering/drooling over it non stop. I certainly had several urges to hump it's leg.

Still want.

Might be a little ridiculous since I JUST got the Camaro a few months ago...
But I think I might actually be trading it / selling it... And getting myself a Raptor SVT with the new 6.2 L.

I LOVE the Camaro.. no doubt.... by far my favorite "car" in the world. And no question it's better looking than a Raptor.

But Pro's & Con's wise.. theres not one single "practical" pro on my list for the Camaro...  Its a massive list of Pro's....  But they're all really about looks/cool/want/power/customize etc......   Nothing I "Need". Nothing practical.... Like.. not one thing...

Besides... Camaro  426 HP  318 torque          Raptor  411 HP  434 torque .... Yes I know the raptors bigger/heavier/slower... but..  how fast am I going to drive around here anyways. Gotta leave town or hit the tracks to have fun.. I don't hit the tracks...  Leaving town leads to lots of dirt/off road opportunities.. (raptor land) and in all honesty a Raptor is going to be quite a bit more rare, and unique.

Insurance is significantly lower on the raptor I'm told. mileage about the same between the raptor/camaro (real world).  But raptor only needs 87 octane rather than the 94 I've been using...   Cost wise.. the raptors going to save 700 to a grand a year on gas and even more if the prices go up again at some point.. possibly saving around a grand on insurance... (My moms f150 is half the cost of my camaro annually.... and they say the svt is considered the same as a regular f150)    so financially it makes a lot of sense..

Finding the visibility issues in the Camaro a little frustrating.. Do'able.. but it's constantly extra work and sometimes causes pretty bad blindspots. Constantly hunching down to see traffic lights since the roof is so low I can't see them without leaning forward..  A lot of physical manouvering that is strenuous on my bad back/neck. Plus getting in and out is a challenge in parking lots with the really wide doors.

And I find that becauase I worship the car so much, it sits in the garage most days.. most nights..... I'm terrified to park it in public lots.. (I do it)but It's stressful !

Doesn't feel like the safest vehicle in the world.

I like the safety ratings on the f150's. I like the ground clearance ! I like that I can lug around whatever I need, go on trips camping, road trips... etc and not worry... and I think I would relax a lot more because of it being a "truck" for off roading.. I don't think I'll be soooo paranoid about trying to keep it pristine. It wont be a garage queen.

I've only got 3500km on my Maro.... and thats supposed to be my Daily driver... which means it's not getting driven a lot the last 4 months...  I'm taken the bus/skytrain, I'm borrowing vehicles. I'm walking.  Having spent over 55 grand on the thing and having to pay to take the 15 window loser cruiser.... seems... stupid.

Yes I could go the winter tire/wheel route.. but it's been a massive challenge finding compatible ones... and they cost a couple grand in the end so I procrascinated. Hearing too many camaro crash stories... and lots of people ripping up front bumpers on curbs or 3 inches of snow on their driveway etc....Sitting in that thing it really is like looking out of a turret.

Anyways.... if I could have two vehicles I would DEFINATELY want the Camaro....  and maybe I'll be working enough when they release the z28 that I can pick one of those up and they'll have smoothed out any of the negatives on the existing camaro's.

Buuuuut, I'm startin to think the GF & Parents were right that I probably shoulda went the truck route innitially.

I think my shitty dealer experience played a significant part in my camaro frustrations as well.... cars been loads of hassle/stress for me to date.

Have been looking into what I can get for the Camaro lately....   used ones are actually selling at almost MSRP even having twice as many or more miles than mine and sometimes less options for more than what mine was MSRP.... (The price of Camaro's has gone up recently too) so theres no time like right now to sell a Camaro while some people are still on wait lists and not "tons" are on dealer lots here yet.

Raptors far from a practical choice too in reality ! but.... it gives me the best of both worlds in my eyes.. something I think is insanely cool... PLUS fully capable of all practical needs... and in the long run... even if I take a hit on the camaro sale.....   the savings in other ways will add up.

(I know a lot of guys will think im nuts... since they get around just fine year round in the lowered 3s)

Drove a Raptor today...   was highly impressed to say the least. (A little suprised I was OFFERED test drive without asking for it... and didn't have to show ID or a licence or anything whatsoever..) The other places I've gone to didn't allow test drives.

Also suprised at how hard the sales guy was driving that thing... it had mud up the side of it (obviously someone was REALLY having some fun in it) he let me take it to a back street that was really badly beat up and bumpy as heck pot hole mania / train tracks etc...   Definately impressed with the suspension on these... It's pretty much begging for off road territory.

Very likely I will go ahead n switch from the Camaro to a Raptor... if the numbers are right. Really just comes down to money at this point.

Waiting on offers for trade in's from the two dealers.. and gonna look into whether my own dealer for the Camaro... will help me sell it since they still owe me for all the hassle.

Don't know if selling private is a good idea.

Reads like you're trying to talk yourself out of the Camaro and into a Raptor or your Camaro purchase really was an impulse purchase.

If you get the Raptor, it reads like you're going to go off roading, not care about scratches, dings and scuff marks and really use it as a true off roading vehicle.  Yet in another part you like the fact the Raptor is rare and unique!  Are you really going to treat it like a truck if it's rare and unique?  Are you really going to park it anywhere and not worry about it getting stoled/broken into, etc?

I predict that if you get the Raptor, another 'neat' vehicle will come out and you'll want to talk your self out of the Raptor within 12 months of owning one.

All the best!

Well I wrote up a massive reply but its too long so I'll keep it simple.  (believe it or not this is the wayyy shorter version)

I definately am indeed trying to convince myself. Giving up a Camaro ain't easy. And I honestly don't want to as I love the hell out of it and have NOT lost any interest in it.

What I have come to realize is that it terrifies the crap outta me due to a large number of very significant visibility issues..That I had hoped would be overcome.. (but thus far are not improving).    These are all visibility issues that have been pointed out by others in the Camaro forums that I chose to feel I could get past.

Test drives were not allowed for quite some time in the Camaro's.  You'd be suprised how many people have returned their "dream car" based on visibility alone over on the Camaro forums.

It is also, overall costing a lot more than I had anticipated due to being a little too excited to get what I want, instead of taking time to consider certain details that a more experienced buyer may have had the common sense to investigate further. I could survive these costs.. but with all the safety/visibility issues I'm finding it harder and harder to justify.

(never bought a car before.. now I've learned some lessons for future reference.)

Also have found myself restricted in a long list of ways. (spare you the rant).

Raptor... (after having test driven)  resolves all the issues I have with the Camaro.
But it costs even more.. So I may very well just opt to sell the Camaro and go with something more practical/cheaper altogether.

We'll see.

I see where you're coming from with the prediction, but I gotta say you're way off. I'm not "that" type, but can see easily how it might appear that way.

I'll be sure to follow up a year from now Wink

btw... here is what I have driven regularly in the past.

1986 GMC Jimmy.
2001 Pontiac Montana.
2004 F150 4x4 Lariat Supercrew

truck/van/truck.     That is probably where some of the "limitations" I am now feeling are coming into play as well as why the visibility is has been such a hard thing to adapt to for me.

I can understand why the visibility could be an issue for you. Going from those high perches when driving, to the lower stance of the camaro that would take some getting used to.
