What the, argh, I put the video code between the youtube tags and it didn't work. Some of the videos on The Official Youtube thread aren't working either.

Here's the Youtube link while I figure it out...

I'm still not sure about this refresh... the back end looks too much like a minivan for me.  I do like what they've done to the climate controls/stereo panel though.

It's official, the 2012 Mazda 5 is coming to North America in early 2011.
http://www.mazdausamedia.com/content/mazda-unveil-all-new-2012-mazda5-and-mazda-shinari-concept-2010-los-angeles-auto-show

  • The 2012 model will have a 2.5L engine though it will be rated at 157HP, not 167HP like the Mazda3.
  • There are no torque or fuel economy ratings yet.
  • Mated to a six speed manual transmission or five speed automatic transmission.
  • Six seater, yet again we don't have the seven seater models like in Europe and Asia.

If they had the new Mazda 6 Wagon available here, I would have a new car right now.

in terms of the bodylines, I like the curves on the side.  But that straight crease which go across the entire side should disappear.

I like the current and previous versions better... don't like the back end of it at ALL.  It looks longer than my 5, at least from this angle.

Do not want!

Yea I'm considering trading my 07 for a latest and greatest 2010 model GT with leather package... early next year.

Geez... Pick a style handbook.  Straight lines, curvy lines, but pick *one*.

Mind you, the creases should go a long way towards stiffening the door panels made from tissue-paper-thin metal.  :\

The 08+ is definitely more aerodynamic and sporty, but with my 07 I could go VIP if I wanted. I'm still planning to lower it at some point. Cheesy

Yeah, I still love the looks of my first-gen 5 too.

I know I've said this like 4 times in this thread but the back end of the new one is horrific.

The rear is much better than the first gen. Reminds me a lot of the Previa. I've always hated the 1st gen tailights being up top like the CRV's.

The front, on the other hand...

Loving the 6 wagon but then in the price range I'm not sure I'd go for that...

I'm not feeling the new 5's waves or the front or the back...  I really like how it looks right now.

As for the 3rd row seats I think my personal preference would be to have 4 captains chairs in the back.  That way it provides comfortable seating for all with the versatility of removing them if you want more cargo space...  The demographics for that car is young families right?  Most ppl only have 1 or 2 kids now so you don't really need all that passenger capacity I would think?

The new Mazda 5 is losing some great features like the power assisting doors, LED rear lights, and sporty chrome exhaust, and moon roof isn't standard on GT anymore but available with leather package now.

The third row has been great when we had extra family in town, but they're not really to be used as permanent seats. 4+2 seater sums it up. It's a shame that they did not make it a 5+2 seater like it has been in Europe and Asia for the past ten years. The new Ford C-Max will hopefully be a 5+2 seater.

Do you know if manual transmission will still be available on ALL models??

I love my Power Assist doors, it's a really minor detail but it's nice not having to slam a door shut. And what sporty chrome exhaust? Lol.

I saw a 2012 Mazda 5 leaving work last night parked in front of Signature Mazda. It was white and actually looked nice in the flesh. I like the contrast on the rear bumper now. MS3-esque.

I agree with the contrast, I haven't seen one in person but in the photos it definitely bumps the 5 upscale looks wise, even if people may not agree with the switch from vertical tail lights.
