Something tells me it's unlikely that the sensors are confusing the brake and throttle systems.  It seems much more likely that idiot human beings are confusing the two and looking for someone other than themselves to blame.

I disagree, the sensors in their feet are confusing the brake and gas pedal because their brain isn't functioning properly.  OMG, I f_ _ _ ked up, what will I blame it on?  The car made me do it!  There are only two pedals in an automatic, how dumb can they be and who gave them a driver's licence in the first place.  I'd still like to punch that Prius driver, that was on TV, silly.  Can we get a recall on all the malfunctioning politicians, please.  LOL

some of these issues aren't from a start, but after accelerating to merge onto an on ramp the cars will simply continue to accelerate ,no way you can blame that on hitting the wrong pedal, when you would not be touching the brake at all.

If you're continuing to accelerate and don't want to; hit the brakes and shove it into neutral if necessary.  I'm not saying that the gas pedal wasn't binding/sticking or slow in recovery.  I asked my wife what she'd do if the car/engine didn't slow down when she took her foot off the gas.  SHE KNOWS NOW, but there are probably many who haven't encountered the problem of a sticking accelerator and just panic.
