I just read this. Wow, sounds like someone didn't research the car enough.

Actually, I did a lot of research. Smiley The fact of the matter is that Mazda 3 does not have a lot of direct competitors in North America; it is by far the most fun to drive hatchback under 25 grand. Off course there are lots of "point A to point B" kind of cars, but I am not into that.

This list would be way longer for most other cars currently in production. And overall, I actually like the car a lot. These are just minor annoyances.

I used to drive a smart car, that thing get about 4 to 5 L /100km, consider it is a 3 cylinder turbo diesel it is not tooo bad. I don't really care about fuel economy too much, i just like to see how thirsty or how thrifty from time to time. I don't accelerate too hard either though.

I was just looking at the review for a new GTI, consider I bought my auto hatch GT, i could have gotten a GTI stick for the same price... sigh, that is one of the ONLY possible regreds of my purchase.

VW Golf GTI? I would not feel tiny bit of regret. Yes Golf is a nice car, but it has very poor reliability record. This is exactly the reason why I did not get one.

Been around VWs my whole life so I will have to disagree with this. The current golf and golf GTI are superior in most facets to our 3s and speed3s. But a great comment from a guy who hates more things about his mazda3 than he likes.

For me, I try to find things that i will potentially hate before I buy, and try to love everything about my car after I buy.

That's why I no longer want to look into GTIs, so no regrets!

My brother has a new Golf. It's nice but after 11 years with a Jetta I wanted something different. The Golf was smaller for us, so we liked the size of the Mazda3 Sport. My brother almost got a 3 but he preferred the smaller Golf. He had an older Golf as well. I like the value I get from Mazda and paid so much less than a new Golf.  No regrets.

Well, I have been all my life around JDM Toyotas, Hondas and Nissans... As for VWs, I have never owned one, but there is enough information on them, for example here: http://www.truedelta.com I strongly suggest to look into what kind of malfunctions VWs have, it is kind of entertaining. I was particularly impressed by airbag going off with no reason. For Mazda 3 usual problems are radio and fuel cap.

But a great comment from a guy who hates more things about his mazda3 than he likes.
Please refrain from demagogy. I clearly stated that in spite of the listed annoyances (which almost any vehicle will have), I like the car overall.

Ok, whatever helps you sleep at night. Although we could post numerous sites/links/articles to prove each other wrong back and forth, I won't get into a pissing match. I still like my 06 mz3, but will not buy a mazda again.

Enjoy your new car and welcome to the forums.
