How has your experience been with the phone? I'm curious how it works on the carriers up here since I know Telus just got the Google blessing. Smiley

I don't have any experience with the actual N1, but I can tell you that the HSPA network up here is decent.  Generally speaking Bell rides on a lot of Telus HSPA sites and you're most likely using Telus cell sites if you're on Bell.  Bellus continues to invest in the network here...so should improve over time.  However, Bell is scaling back heavily on its mobility operations and operations in general over here in the West because it simply can't compete...it's something that should be noted.

Oh yeah, mind you, they didn't really put TOO much resources into building out the HSPA network for the Olympics but they did for CDMA around venue sites.

But it's there.

Jup has one. He broke it within 2 hours... Hahaha... Or at least the SIM card slot broke. He got the replacement now, not sure what he thinks of it now.

I am definitely looking to replace my phone with an Android phone now. My brother has an old HTC Dream and it works great even with the old OS.

I went to check out the Milestone and the telus rep gave us a demo. He said his main gripe was if you're in an app, getting to the phone is only possible if you back out all the way home. The phone doesn't have the call or send buttons on the front. The more I think about this, the silly it sounds. I think he hasn't used it long enough to learn the shortcut to do this.

How was the buying experience process? Overpriced like a $800 iphone? Unlocked or no contract iphones are overpriced too.

I'm sure the Droid/Milestone or N1 has it's cons just like any phone. $580 isn't too bad with our dollar at par. Now if only I could get one of the guys here to buy my Bold 9700. Smiley

well there's another 72 you pay when it gets to your door.  so it's like 640.
I do miss BBM though and the interface is actually pretty decent.

the Snapdragon processor is speedy enough, but the battery life is like 12 hours and the screen mostly kills it.

I just got my Nexus One and car dock today. it shipped at like 9:30pm last night and I had it at work in Burnaby by 1:30pm today. Haven't had a chance to try it out since I left it at work and need to get migrated from my cdma BB.

BBM is what everyone misses I hear. But if it wasn't for our group or my wife, most of the other people on my list never use it. Even our group is small. So, for that there's texting, KIK, IM apps and so I don't see how anyone can't move on. I mean, many of you have with your iphones and android phones.

Maybe our group could decide on an app that we could communicate as we do on bbm. But I guess that's what the forums are for. BBM groups feature is very cool though. We take pics and share instantly. Maybe we could use twitter direct message features to keep it private and post pics.... just suggestions. I'm sure some developer is working on this right now to make a clone of bbm for all platforms.

Are you on Telus? You mentioned CDMA. I'm using the Bold 9700 on the new network. Would I just slip the SIM into the N1 to work or also cancel the BB plan and switch to a smartphone plan?

Yeah Telus, i need to have my sim activated and change my plan over to hspa. I think your sim would work for voice on N1, but not sure about data since BB is a different data plan than non BB devices.

I think I do need to switch over as BB is a totally different plan. I had to call in to do the switch from the CDMA Tour to the Bold 9700. Couldn't switch it online. I was told only same technologies can be done but not moving from CDMA to HSPA.

Can't wait to see some pics and write up on your experience. Do you work for Telus or a rep at a store?

I'll try and post some pics when I get a chance and my impressions once i've had sometime with the device since android is completely new to me.

I'm sure I'll get screwed over when I make the switch since i think i will lose my $15 unlimited data.

Yeah i work in the engineering department on the wireline side.

I am waiting to play with Jup's N1 to see how it is like. If I can unload my N97 I will probably pick up some sort of Android phone. I really need a full physical keyboard though.

Then you probably will prefer the droid/milestone. My wife isn't happy about the idea of switching to an iphone, she just is on the sidelines. She likes the idea of Android being open & customizable but doesn't want to use Google services. Is it possible to use this phone and sync it with something else other than Google's beta apps?
