Body only?
you can get it for $1028.33 BNIB

I would save the money for better lens instead of being stuck with the kit lens

I was lookin into one about a year ago.  It's a camera that is SLIGHTLY improved over the 40D, not enough WOW factor

I opted for the Nikon D300, which is discontinued now but still a much better camera.  Can be had for about 1k used now.

Personally if i were in your shoes and was wanting canon, I would look into buying a used 40D (or even a T1i), or perhaps picking up a new/used T2i or even 7D if you're willing to spend the money.

Pony up a few more $$$ for the 7D.  Personally I think that's a bit much as body only is just under $1000 and most people don't even use their kit lens anyways.  Buy an XSi and spend the rest a good prime.

Are you used-averse?  There are plenty of deals on yourlist (craigslist)... though of course I'm guessing the market is much smaller in Kelowna.

What do you intend to shoot?  do you need the 6-odd fps from the 50D?

It was body and kit lense. They WOULD NOT include a CF ard of any size in the deal.

After doing some research on the webs, via the links provided here and my own searching... It really is'nt a very good deal. I'm not opposed to searching my-list (hah), however... In past experience, Kelowna is a little different than the coast. In the fact that, if a higher end item is forsale... There is usually something wrong with it.

After doing some research and reading the comments here... I think that the 50D might just have a little more to offer than I really need.

How does everyone feel about the useage and capability differences between the  XSI /  T1I  / 50D. I realize anything above and including the T1I offers 3.4FPS or better video output, it is however not something I NEED. The T1I/T2I is also the highest end camera that still use SD cards correct?

This is all that came up on CL, and I'll only entertain Canon.

i wouldn't suggest an xsi/t1i/t2i, I don't like their all plastic bodies
useful site for Canon reviews http://www.the-digital-picture.com/Reviews/

the 1D uses SD and CF, so they are the highest end camera that uses SD

The only thing is, I really don't know if I need THAT much camera. It may be a waste of money for myself to use IMO, as I would likely not use all of its functionality. I'm a fairly simple guy. hah

lol, the 40D should be good for your needs then
but note that it is 1.6x crop sensor, not the same as your old 35mm film
so all your old lens focal length will be 1.6x
eg. 50mm will appear to be 80mm

lol hannah montana.

personally, I would never buy an open box camera.  display models get abused pretty badly and the savings are not great.
aren't they still in $1600 range?
MKIs are a lot cheaper than $1600  you can probably get one for 800$.  they were 1600 NEW jsut before the mkII came out.

Duely noted. I'd end up buying another lense aswell.

I'll be honest, I know very little about cameras... My 35mm IS lense would work, but be off in its focal range? This fact would be the same whether it is a 40D, vs. XSI?

The 40D is an older version of the 50D correct?

And no Kev, I'll be keeping my film. It is however more of a project camera than something to take nice photos with. Nice photos can be taken, but it is more of a job than something that just happens.   I just would like a no hassle, no nonsense piece of equipment that takes nice shots again and again.

I was looking to pick something up before my trip to the cabin on the shuswap this weekend. However i'm not sure that this will be the case at this point.
