http://www.autonorth.ca/home/2010/4/28/mazda-announces-mazda2-yozora-special-edition-for-canadians.html

Us lucky Canucks are getting a little exclusive love from Mazda in the form of a limited edition Mazda2 that will be available when sales of the subcompact kick off in July. Called the Mazda2 Yozora (yó-zo-ra), which means 'night sky' in Japanese, the diminutive hatch is available only in black with a special "2" graphic featured on the driver's side front quarter. This graphic was first seen on a Mazda2 shown at the Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto earlier this year.

Hit the jump to see what else sets the Yozora edition apart from the standard model.

The Yozora edition is basically a design package, and apart from the graphic on the front, the new 2 also differentiates with 16 inch, 8-spoke silver and black wheels wrapped with 195/45/R16 Toyo performance tires, a unique raised rear spoiler, 'Yozora' tailgate badge and 'Yozora edition' floormats inside the car. In a tip to Canadian winters, Mazda is also including a set of winter tires on black 15 inch steelies.

The Yozora edition is based on the entry-level Mazda2 GX and will also include air-conditioning and the optional Convenience Package. This package has fun little goodies such as heated door mirrors, remote keyless entry, and wheel-mounted audio and cruise control buttons.

“With its captivating design, exceptional value and fun-to-drive
attributes, the Mazda2 Yozora will cater to our younger enthusiasts, who
value individuality and expression,” said Mike Collinson, director of marketing
and product strategy, Mazda Canada. “For under $20,000, Yozora offers the
most sought-after accessories and customization in one convenient
package.”

Mazda is limiting production of the Yozora to merely 500 units, all of which are for North America the Canadian market only (sorry USA!), and will start at $19,280 (5-spd manual) which is $1,085 above the starting price of the otherwise top trim GS model.

Cool, but I think I'd get tired of the 2's painted on the front pretty quickly.

I don't really like the wheels and the "2" decals.  Been emailing Brad from Wolfe, he said he already has 4 sold and they should be in next month sometime.  I don't know if I can go from 274 hp to 100hp.  I drive mostly city so it would save my gas.

Get a bunch of the green magnetic "n"'s from new drivers and make it Nitrogen powered.

what does this yozora edition have that regular Mazda2's wouldn't otherwise have?
It looks pretty plain jane, other than the addition of the 2 decals all over.  Seems it's a base GX version that comes with power options and A/C.  I'm guessing they slapped on some rims, decals, power options and called it a day?

I think that's pretty much it - decals, rear spoiler and rims / tires (and a set of snow tires / steelies)

sort of in a tangent here, guys.

a friend of mine was looking at getting the new Ford Fiesta.   I told her to also check out the Mazda2.   Would it be fair to say that the Mazda2 is the sister car for the Fiesta?   Any benefits to owning the Mazda over the Fiesta?   It seems like Ford is marketing the Fiesta to be more hip/funky car for the budget-minded, younger crowd.   I could be wrong though.

The MZ2 and the Fiesta are the same chassis & driveline.  Suspension tuning and interior details will be different between the two.

I had a chance to sit in the Fiesta at the auto show.  It was quite nice for a small car.  it also has the clutchless auto trans, which is a big plus in my books.

If I remember right, the Mazda2 is made is Japan while the Fiesta is made in Mexico.

True - the Fiesta is built in Mexico.  I can't think of one reason I'd buy a Fiesta over a 2, should I be looking for a small car.

Difference in price for virtually the same vehicle?  Two years ago my buddy was looking for a small pickup.  He looked at the Mazda B3000 and the Ford Ranger with the 3.0 V6.  The Mazda, with the same option load, was $4000 MORE!  Figure that out.
