sigma dp2s.  probably within your budget, not interchangeable lens. 
my friend had a dp2 (sold it for the olympus EP1), and he loved the image quality.  I have to say, i was shocked at the images coming out of that thing too (the screen looks like shit though).

I had this same question some time ago, and judging from my experience, I'd say you go for SX210IS. It's 14x optical zoom makes it ideal to shoot distant subjects, perfect for a traveler like me. Smiley
