we have a chat room set up already.  Haven't used it in awhile though

http://www.bcmazda3.com/forum/index.php/topic,3065.0.html

And a chat room's purpose is different than that of a forum.  The purpose of a forum is to retain a history of the discussions and the experience that goes with them. This way other folks can refer to past discussions if they have a similar interest, question, or issue.  This is also why we encourage members to use the "search" function before posting or starting a new thread.

With a chat room (other than for the true purpose of chatting), you will need ensure the folks with the right knowledge is there; otherwise there will only be questions and no answers.  I don't know how you would ensure that cuz I certainly don't intend to be monitoring the chat room 24/7

Oh my bad, I was expecting it to be a sticky or on the homepage.
But then theres 58 people online right now, that would be atleast 20 people in the chat, maybe?

Edit: and yeah thats true, the forums are better for question - answer, and for the archival, so anyone can see it. But the chat would be nice for my stupid-noob questions Smiley

TO put this in perspective....

WSC (Western Subaru club) has total 1214 members on the forum.
Currently online 30 Users w/ 7 guests.
Their IRC currently has 15 People listed.
1 is the Bot that lives there for Admins/mods, the admin and one mod who always sit idle.
That takes it down to 12, but out of those there is just me and 4 other chatting right now.

Worth it maybe but if they have tried it before, most likely there wasn't enough activity.
