Another Island Guy here in Vic. Love my Mazda 3. We need more freeways like they have in the U.S. Just got back from a road trip to Portland and loved cruisin on the I5. To many traffic lights here.

Welcome to the forums! Any mods to your car? I dunno if you would enjoy the trip as much in a lowered 3 with low profile tires.

No mods yet. Soon though. It just seems life has been so busy and haven't had the chance. I will be throwing on a short ram intake by AEM, then lowering it with some rims. I haven't yet decided Chrome or Brushed Alloy.

Chrome is nice. I like what Desi has done to her white sedan.

+1. Then again we have a meet at work every day haha. Oh and Jodo, it is that lady that works in my building with the carbon grey 3, it's the secretary to the Dean.

I don't think AEM makes a short ram. Well I am not 100% sure.

You are right.? AEM Doesn't have one for the 2006 yet only for the 2004.? I believe they are the same app but they said they haven't tested for the 2006 yet.? I know K&N has a complete kit that that can be easily converted from cold air to short ram for it does come with the extension. No mods yet. Soon though. Frosty has the Fujita F5 intake and I am waiting for my F2 intake to come in. These are both CAI though and not SRI. Although it does rain here in Victoria, I really don't see an issue with it. Van gets more rain and they have CAI there too.

Yep I've got a CAI. You don't need to be concerned about hydrolock unless you plan on driving through some three foot deep puddles. A SRI draws air from inside the engine bay, so unless you build a cold air box or have an external source of air routed to the SRI, do not expect any gains.

I might just go with the AEM cold air that is available. I have never used an aftermarket cold air on a car before. I have always used a short ram intake. I like the sound of the Short Ram, does the cold air sound similar.

well I don't want to discourage your choice in AEM but the Fujita and F2 can be had for cheaper and show the same good gains if not higher gains. As for this being your first CAI, its mine too

Yeah definitely go for Fujita or F2. By the way I installed my intake during the middle of winter and never once had a problem.

well the thing about that one is its "over" priced for what it does, BUT it does mean that if installed by a mazda dealership, your warrantee will be unaffected by it. That is the one plus.
The mazdaspeed intake is around 255CDN +tax i think. while the F2 is around 200 after tax. so depends on what you think is fair price. You shouldn't need a heat shield for it, but a splash guard couldn't hurt.
