If in the case of a vehicle that is shared by family.....  People hold different levels of licences...   For example, if I had a class 5, and my sibling who is sharing this vehicle has an "N"...

Could I be ticketed for driving the vehicle with the "N" still displayed if I have a class 5 licence?

I know you get ticketed for NOT displaying it when you are supposed to have it up, but.... what if you don't need it and leave it on there for the family member who also uses the vehicle?

I assumed it didn't matter as long as you met or exceeded the requirement of that displayed sign.... I didn't think being "over-qualified" would get you ticketed in the same way...

Someone told me today that you can be ticketed for showing the N if you are a class 5 driver...  I thought this was false... but haven't been able to find anything in the MVA or on ICBC site that states that it matters at all what you display if you have a class 5.

Just leave it up if someone else drives the car.

I had a class 5, and when i was learning stick, I put the N back on my car.

Yeah I just leave it on... I assumed there was no issue with that...

But someone tried tellin my mom that if it is left on while someone with a class 5 drives.. they can be ticketed...

I am under the impression this is false.... as I have found nothing to verify that.

Phone the non-emergency police department and ask them Smiley

Or ICBC.

I don't think there is an issue with having it up, but if you are possibly driving against the limits of an N then you might get stopped and checked.

I have seen ghost car with N sign on Hwy1. Cops can't be driving with Class 7. So I'd say it is ok.

yes and no. They are exempted at certain rules when they need to perform their duties. However having a N sign on the back of the ghost car is not necessary in order to carry out their duty. So unless they obviously ignore laws/regulations they are upholding, I think it is legal to have a N sign for Class 5.

you also have to consider, even if it is legal, some cops are dicks about it and think it should so they won't let you off no matter what you do.

Years ago when this licensing thing started I was told that driving with an "N" or "L" displayed when the driver is a class 5 license holder is an $85 fine.  However it is rarely enforced.
