Good news, I'm going down soon. i was down all weekend and some stores are choosing not to charge tax, like old navy, target, champs, bed bath and beyond etc, but some like AE, hollister are still charging the taxes. if the law doesnt pass then the companies not charging tax now will have to pay back what they didnt charge us, so whateves. but tonnes of freakin deals. almost everything we bought was 20-80% less than up here. plus i saw uncle T at target.

Haha, seems like almost everyone I know was south of the border over the weekend. I wonder if Vancouver looked like a ghost town during that time.

Yes it did. And my rents were in Oregon the same time you guys were. They brought us some squeaky cheese from the tilamook factory. Did you guys try it?

Sorry for bringing back an old thread but I love Oregon so much. It's an awesome state and the coast is so beautiful. Yes I know we pretty much have the same one here in BC but the experiencing driving down 101 and all you see is nothing but some wicked scenery is just breathtaking in my opinion. I can't wait to go back down there next year.
Awesome photos! Looks like you guys had a great time.

Kind of interesting that this came up in the unread posts list, since we're leaving on Friday morning for Napa Valley and San Francisco... taking the Pacific Coast all the way down. This will be my first drive down the Pacific Coast Highway, since I've only been in BC for a couple of years. We're doing 4 days in Oregon and then about 5 or 6 in Napa and San Fran. I'll be sure to post up some pics.

Mike and I did the same drive back in March. We drove all the way to Grants Pass and then stayed overnight. We took the junction to the 101 there and drove down the coast. It was amazing!
Make sure you stop at the drive-thru tree. Highlight of our trip even though it was kind of kitsch, I had a blast. FYI, golden gate costs moneys to cross so bring change. (I think it's like $6). Keep an eye out on San Fran Groupon for fun activities to do like a sight seeing cruise.
Also, make sure you try the seafood at Pier 23 Cafe.

This will be our second trip to San Fran. We luckily have some friends that live out there, so we flew out in December for the first time last year, and stole their car for a week. However, the drive down seems to be far more exciting (it could be the Speed 3 that's causing that). We're doing a combination B&B's and tenting along the way in Oregon, and then have a few nights booked at a hotel in Napa Valley. So, after a few days of tenting, we'll clean ourselves up and head out to the Vineyards. The weather has been amazing there, so it should be fantastic time to tour some wineries.
We have a couple of things in mind for when we're in SF. Lots of people recommend taking in a ball game, so we may end up doing that, even though neither of us are big baseball fans. Apparently the stadium is a must visit. I also have a craigslist wanted ad to see if I can get some Alcatraz night tour tickets... so far, no luck though.
Any other suggestions?

We stayed in Nob Hill. It was great, very central, an easy walk down, a grueling walk back. I think the 1st night, I thought I was going to vomit up a lung!! For the drive down, obviously stop in Woodburn, OR for the outlets. If you're craving a shake and see a Sonic, stop. that shit will CHANGE YOUR LIFE. I loved driving the MS3 on the highway, playing cat and mouse with an, obviously heavily modded, M5. As for SF, we loved Castro and Haight Ashbury neighbourhoods. It was great to walk around. If you happen to be there, the painted ladies are really pretty (they are a group of beautifully restored Victorian houses). PM me if you have more questions, I'll be happy to tell you what (little) I know. If you have a chance to visit the Mumm Napa Winery, their sparkling wine is to die for.
