Aren't these cars supposed to be slower than the 2.5 in terms of 0-60? How did he manage to get 5.7 with bolt ons. I'm not really sure what a PFC is so would that be it?

Yeah, the XRS is pretty peppy for a Corolla...
I tried looking for one, but they're super hard to secure =(

Every review i've read said that they are totally mediocre.... Including and especially the performance aspect.

The XRS doesn't have the torque of the 2.5 and 170HP isn't much, but because you can bring the 2ZZ-GEs all the way to 8250 RPM, you can get to 60mph in just two gears/one shift.

There are quite a few Corolla XRS/Matrix XRS/Celica GTS available, the only thing I would watch out for with the 2ZZ-GEs is the undersized oil pump. Google it with engine failures due to spun rod bearings and the like... the immediate remedy seems to be to put in 1 additional quart of motor oil more than usual to ensure that the engine gets sufficient oil above 6000 RPM (under 6000 RPM the fuel pump is fine). Of course there's no way to know about potential engine failure with the naked eye, listen to the engine very carefully through the entire RPM range, bring an engine stethoscope if necessary to listen to any signs of rod knock. The car is throttle cable so it's not hard, but listen to it under acceleration as well. If you can find one in great condition, this is the last of the fun to drive Toyotas that can be had for awhile, until the FT-86 comes.

down_hill_dog, EVERY review huh? I have a few buddies who own 2ZZ based cars and they love it. This is the same engine that are in some Lotus models.

well my point was how the hell did he get it to 60 in 5.7 seconds when its rated 7.7

http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/sedans/112_0805_2009_toyota_corolla_xrs/specifications.

Is it really possible with just bolt ons to get to 5.7 secs?

You're linking the 2009 XRS with the underwhelming 2.4L engine that has 158HP and redlines somewhere around 6,something RPM. The 2005-2006 has a 1.8L 2ZZ rated at 170 to 180HP depending on the car its on and redlines at 8,250 RPM, but you're right the 2005-06 XRS is 7.7s stock. It might be a supercharged 2ZZ and the video poster didn't disclaim that. A few folks on 9thgencorolla have S/Ced their 2ZZs, and I know a couple of guys who supercharged their 1ZZs in WA state.

the older XRS engines made by yamaha were nice.  But after driving the 04-05 corolla xrs and matrix xrs with the 1.8L, it really didn't give much of a 'thrill' factor.  Toyota mucked around with the computer to make the car a bit smoother for consumers as they had recieved a lot of complaints about how much of a jolt the engine can give.  Personally, it was a nice little jolt.  The new program they put in smoothed everything right out to the point of no joy.  The ones prior to the 04 models were better in response from what I experienced.  The celica gts was a different story...same engine but just felt better overall...maybe it was just the whole sports car feel to it.  The matrix was nice except it was a bit over kill for the car but the corolla xrs left a lot to be desired.  Been looking at a celica GTS with the earlier 1.8L engines to tinker around with.  Driven a few of them when I worked for toyota and liked the way the engine responds. I'm not a big fan of the current xrs with the 2.4L engines...not much there really...but toyota's V6 2GR-FE...that leaves me with a smile every time I slam that pedal to the ground!

Someone on 9thgencorolla's dyno sheet, he has I/H/E and tuned PFC. 196WHP, compared to 170CHP stock. He has LIFT set at 5900rpm, below that it's your average Joe Corolla engine, above that it's a whole different monster. Look how flat the torque curve is. CR-Z what?
