Microsoft plans to release a new Xbox 360 controller in November that features a transforming D-pad, the company announced Tuesday. C|net story

I think Microsoft should have bundled this new controller with the slim models. Why bring it out after? And doesn't the idea of removing colors from the buttons mess up the entire menu system? It's not just about the letters but the colors is what helps me quickly press them during a game or menu system.

ghey. why go back to d-pad? looks like a sell-old-as-new-technology marketing bullshit.

Go back?  The 360's current d-pad is quite lackluster in precision, which is what most d-pads are meant for.  In fact, most controllers have pretty unimpressive d-pads except Nintendo's controllers.  Reading the article's comments, there are some patent issues around this.  Looks like MS might have got around it by providing a two-mode "disc."

Looking forward to how it operates.  I am wondering if the button colours have gone out in a case of form vs. function, but I personally remember buttons symbolically and not by hue.
