My source mentioned there might be a $500 cash to the Mazda 5 owner from Mazda for all the inconvience. BUT NOT CONFIRMED YET.

My take is about 75% real.

I assumed you are not talking about my spelling mistake, it's for the recall that has been taking about 3 weeks so far to fix.

Mazda USA is giving owners 500$ in cash, as well as a reset of their factory warranties.? I've heard nothing from Mazda Canada as of yet.? I'd be happy with that, especially the warranty reset.? I will probably tint the windows and get that little ding on the back fixed.? Smiley

BTW my car has been sitting on the lot at the dealership for over a month now.  I think that qualifies as inconvenient.

if this is true that would be great....actually sent an email to Mazda Canada letting them know how unhappy i was....they replied back and they mentioned that they were not doing any type of compensation...that was 2 weeks ago...so things may have changed!

Mazda Canada have been a bunch of bastards when it comes to this recall - in the US they are afraid that people will "Lemon Law" their 5's.  Up here they have no such concerns.  I will be writing a letter to Mike Benchimol as well as my dealership and as many people at Mazda I can get my hands on, if they do not at LEAST match what is being done for the US customers.

Just talked to someone at Mazda Canada, and SURPRISE SURPRISE ... Mazda Canada is still saying they are giving no compensation on the 5.  I am really pissed now. If you have been inconvenienced by the loss of your 5 I encourage you to write to mcicr@mazda.ca and explain your situation.

They put you in a rental even there is a minimal risk on catching fire. So they have done all they could, asking for more compensation is kind of pushing it.

Well if the US gets compensation, I wouldn't say its pushing it to see if you can get it here too.

They have done all they could?? How about getting me a MAZDA, at the very least, to drive while my brand new car sits on a dealership lot waiting for them to figure out what the problem is?  Not to mention that I was the one who actually brought the problem to the attention of the dealerships in the first place... they should give me a freakin' medal.

I don't blame my dealership for this problem, nor do I blame Mazda Canada, but I do think that a small amount of goodwill towards the 2,000 people affected by this problem would go a long way.  It's called being a good corporate citizen.

I see your frustration not having your new car to drive. But try to see it from their perspective.

- They voluntary fix a so call "problem" which happen only on mis-use/abuse.
- They put you in a rental of the equivalent class vehicle. If they give you a 6 or a 3, you might complain you can't sit 6, I doubt they have 2000 MPV to lend out (new or used).

Yes giving freebie out will clam the owners down, but that is a favor not a must.
Yes the wait is a bit long......but you rather have a badage fix or a complete fix? things don't happen overnight. If Mazda had recall the car and NOT give you a rental.....I see them as bad, but with how they treated the customer (even tow charge for return of the 5) is already fair.

They added a heat shield to the back, underneath the muffler.  Did an adjustment to the PCM, which shouldn't affect my car at all.  The big difference is that they changed the silencer, which means the engine is a little "throatier" (as my wife put it) than before.  Smiley Smiley
