There was a fatal accident last night on Gaglardi around 4ish?

No traffic getting up or down from the mountain for hrs...  Drive home was hell and took over an hr for something that should have taken 10 mins...

I was sad to hear that it was a fatal accident.  A female student apparently made a U Turn mid mountain and was T Boned by an oncoming car...  Obviously not a smart thing to do on that stretch of road since people are often speeding down the hill at times...

I was shocked to hear this morning that among the camera crew that was dispatched to cover the accident one of them was the dad of the girl...  Unconfirmed but that's apparently what ppl on campus have heard...  I can't imagine what the dad must be going through right now and how he felt when he was there...

I know some of our members are SFU students/staff.

Lets be careful on the hill.  Its always unnerving when I see the median divider with new divots and new scratch marks, not to mention cars being pulled out of the ditches all along Gaglardi.

It's snowing today as well...  I hope everyone will get home safely tonight!

there was a link to a news story posted on revscene
http://www.canada.com/technology/Thr...660/story.html

in the story it says some guy veered into oncoming traffic @.@

i got off the mountain just 10mins or so before it happened
some people do drive like dumbasses down the mountain thinking they're invincible and esp at times of transitioning weather where i bet theres still sooo many ppl who are running on their summers

Some internet rumor said a u-turn. The news only said swerved into oncoming traffic, which could mean anything.

Yep, sounds like yet another internet rumour that got everything wrong.  At least based on the news link above.

This is like common thing for SFU. There are numorous crashes/death on Gaglardi....yet there isn't anything done about it (center divider all the way up, guard rails on the right side downhill).

A much better solution would be 24/7 police speed traps.  They could easily impound and sell enough cars that were doing excessive that it would pay full-time wages for two or three people.
