Hey All, your input would be greatly appreciated.

Would you mind posting your package deal, which provider are you with for internet and cable TV and how much you pay?

My curreny plan with Shaw - HD Basic + High speed internet = $103.99+HST - looking to reduce my cost as I can't justify paying that with the amount of time I spend on the tube and the web.

Just doing some recon work before approaching Shaw/Telus/Bell to get a better package deal - or do any of you work for those companies and give me suggestions to lower my costs?

Thanks in advance for your feedback...

Telus is $36/mo for Optik HD Basic (you DON'T get TSN or Sportsnet with basic, add $11 for this) and 15mbps Optik high speed internet for the first six months for new customers (I cancelled, my wife signed up, hehe). $65/mo after that. HD PVR is $15/mo to rent (free with 3 year contract) or you can find ones on Craigslist for about $140. It has to be model CIS430 as the older boxes won't work (I think), CIS330 is the non PVR model. If you have at least a CIS430, you can use an  XBox 360 as a second (or third or fourth) box, but check with customer service to see how many simultaneous streams you're limited to. My old place it was 2 HD and 1 SD stream but my new place may be different.

I'm on the Shaw bundle:

- Home phone basic
- High Speed internet
- High Definition TV (The full package) + Oasis channel (for the wife)

Costs about $150 a month.

I own my PVR outright.

The TV is the most expensive component by far, but I want to watch F1 races and hockey games in HD so I have to pay to play.

Shaw has a $99 special for phone/Internet/tv. It's basic I believe and you sign for 3 years.

IMO, television packages are extremely overpriced.

And they know how to get you; like spliting up TSN and sportsnet so you have to get both to see all your sports.

Shaw does have contracts. I have a contract with them til September. It is a 1 year contract and you have to give them your credit card and they take money from your credit card monthly. I have Digital TV (Discovery, etc), the basic HD channels (Some free sports channels, mostly news, FOX, CBC, etc), asian package, and Extreme Internet all for $68 a month.

I've got Shaw with internet+HD cable.  Bought the PVR few years ago and paid around 300$ for it.  Did the math at the time and I think after 2~3 years it would have paid for itself so I pulled the trigger.

I am seriously considering going with NHL Center ice though for next season.  I think the cost of NHL center ice will be less than if I keep my HD cable package for the hockey season.  Currently paying 87$/month but with just internet I think its just over 40$.

Only things that I really watch are the HD sports channels for hockey and Sportsnet.  I figure I can get my hockey news on  the web and do with NHL Center ice for HD hockey (it records too so I can watch whenever I feel like it I think?)  I'd have to do more research after the playoffs are over Wink

You can't catch locally broadcast games on Centre Ice. That means every Canucks games on there.I have Centre Ice for my Oilers games but anything on CBC or TSN I had to watch on those channels not Centre Ice. BUT... you do get all the PPV games on Centre Ice so you don't have to fork over $9.95 to watch each of those games.

I thought they're not allowed PPV games anymore?  All canucks games on either sportsnet, cbc or tsn.

I have shaw digital basic + discovery/TLC/History channel, etc + internet = $70/mo. +HST

No Contract but promo for 6months.  No HD which sux cuz some canucks games like the one last night was only shown on sportsnet HD channel 301 I think, and not on channel 22.  So I was streaming online.

I am also waiting for a better Shaw Package since our building is primarily Shaw and Telus told us Optik TV is not available in our building.  =(

as I work for Shaw, I would suggest calling into customer service after making a note in which channels you watch most and we actually have personalizing plans for cable, internet and phone which are priced pretty well (if you dont like the basic or classic cable bundles, or home bundles we're famous for... we have new ones that came out March 8th)

if you want, you can PM me and I can also look into some of the packages that might interest you (I'm not a CSR, nor do I work on the phones or with the packages really, but willing to look into it for you)
