I really like that there's a time indicator on main street telling you when the bus is coming. Do you know if they'll be installing more of those?

I always wish we had those ETA time things in Victoria

I don't love it when I'm across the street, waiting for the light to change, I can see the sign says "due" and then the bus drives by. DAMNIT!

Lol I honestly try to wait as much a possible for people crossing the street. However, on Main in rush hour with a busy bus and another bus about 3 minutes behind, I can't wait lol.

I haven't heard if they are going to install more of the ETA signs but that's always a possibility. I like them too, except when I'm behind and fully loaded and the sign has 2 "due now" buses listed and people get mad that I can't take them lol.

Same problem every freaking day, move to the freaking back of the bus so people can get on!!! I didn't even feel like asking today, just shoved anyone who was in my way out of the way. Sick of freaking asking people to move every freaking single day.

I take the bus with a coworker who usually just shouts "Move on back folks, plenty of room back there!" I always just stand behind him, sheepish.

I use to always take a bus where the driver would say "Move to the back please, there's plenty of room.  I'm not leaving until you all move to the back...."

hehehe, awesome!

Lol I totally do that! Every. Single. Day.

I've found it gets the point across very quickly when I apply the parking brake because it's that sudden loud blast of air that EVERYONE can hear. I then announce that we're not moving until people move back and voila!, amazingly people move! I think people figure I can't tell that there's room when I look in the mirror lol.

Halifax transit operators are on strike. Not that I'm against their job action, it's a dangerous job and I commend bus drivers for what they do (see: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/video/raw-video-skateboarder-rage-caught-on-tape/article2319813/), but at the same time when they go on strike fighting for $27/hour, who are they hurting the most? Not the transit company. Not me, I can drive my ass to work if the transit workers go on strike. What about the minimum wage earner trying to support a family who can't afford a car? Way to fight for the little people. I say if they go on strike, there has to be a contingency to help low income workers get to work, should be paid half by the union and half by the transit company.

I found the use of the word demolishing by the driver, during the video, a curious choice of words, rather that "damaging" or "smashing out the glass".
It doesn't excuse the ignorant behaviour of the boarder.  What an out of control idiot.

2. To do away with completely; put an end to.
3. To damage (someone's reputation, for example) severely. See Synonyms at ruin.

I like it when bus drivers get funny with their mic's.  Used to entertain me back in the day when I'd commute to work/school and the bus driver spends some time having fun with it.  I once had a driver that was being a bit of a radio host and started talking about the nucks and weather etc etc.

Those with a background in Accounting may be able to clarify this "Translink lost $7 million in revenue in 2011 due to unpaid tickets "
 http://www.globaltvbc.com/translink+lost+7+million+in+revenue+in+2011+due+to+unpaid+tickets/6442640603/story.html

Can/do you really budget using something like fines/tickets or is it more of a media faux pas in the wording "lost... revenue"Huh

I remembered the San Francisco tram drivers would continually joke throughout the ride - I guess just to keep everyone's mind off the fact that we're all crammed up.

Part of the problem is probably the nearly 100% raises some executives got this year.

I'm not a banker (although I work with them), but I'm pretty sure they budget "revenue loss" into their financial models.

The same way retail stores need to record sales lost due to shoplifting. If they recorded "transit fares lost due to people driving instead", then I'd be suspicious.

Note to any West Coast Express riders on this forum, employees of Canadian Pacific who owns the track West Coast Express runs on and also operates the trains have issued strike notice. Although there are apparently non union members are available who can drive the trains, there will be no signals and thus they do not want to take risks for the safety of passengers. Shuttle bus service to Skytrain will be available. Check the West Coast Express website tomorrow morning at www.westcoastexpress.com before you head to work.

Note to drivers, it seems that at least 1/3 to 1/2 the riders will either be driving or carpooling to work instead = approximately 1,500 extra vehicles on the road in each direction, expect extra traffic tomorrow on all routes between Mission and Vancouver.

Just Posted.

Update – 14:30 hrs May 22, 2012  An agreement has been facilitated by the federal Labour Minister Lisa Raitt with the CP Rail unionized employees that will allow train crews to cross picket lines and run commuter rail service. This means that we will operate  our regular schedule on Wednesday, May 23rd.”
