I am REALLY pissed!!!!!!! Went to visit my youngest daughter in hospital today at the M.A.S.H unit called Surrey Memorial. I parked my car, walked to the pay machine, paid $4.50 for an hour, went to visit my daughter, came back to my car at 7:00 and I had been given a ticket at 18:22, I paid at 18:13 and was good until 19:13. So the agent gave me a ticket between me parking and paying. There are no tickets given out when you pay to say you had indeed paid. so all I have is the ticket, the time I put the money in, which stall I used. There is no one on site to talk to, the office is closed until tomorrow. I'm just pissed, my daughter is really sick and I'm stuck with a fucking parking ticket, I'm just ready to fucking explode!!!! Sorry for the rant.............

Banja, I know how you feel...I used to go through the same thing at all of the Fraser Health run hospitals when I worked at my previous job up until February. Call them in the morning to  to dispute it and explain that you paid. They will ask for identification numbers, lot number, meter number, etc on the ticket so have it handy. Explain that you parked and walked directly to the meter to pay and they should cancel the ticket. I had about 20 tickets given to me at my last job (hospital equipment servicing) and never had to pay any of them for stupid things like that.

I hope your daughter is doing well, I wish her my best for a quick recovery and to be out very soon. I also hope you get the ticket cancelled. Don't let it get to you too much, put that effort to getting your daughter out quickly.

Thanks so much guys, your kind words about my daughter are very nice, she is 22 and the pain from these cysts are really bad. she has to go today for an ultrasound to see how big they are. Apparently 5 out of 10 women get these horrible things. SMH is so busy! The people who work there are constantly overloaded but they are wonderful and the care is second to none. I was having a really bad day yesterday when I got that bloody ticket.
Now the good news...... I called this morning, got a really helpful person on the phone and they reversed the ticket. But there is no record that I actually paid for that stall, they cant interrogate the parking machine when you use cash. She told me its better to use a credit card then at least the credit card company has a record of the transaction. She said the guy must have seen me park, watch me walk away not knowing I was paying right outside emerg......anyway, next time[today] I will be using Visa, I wont use $$$$ again.  I go to the theatre in Vancouver, movies etc and I have the auto park thing on my phone but I dont think it works in parkade parking. Anyway folks, thanks for being so kind.......

I'm also not a fan of all the pay parking garbage at SMH. As if having a loved one in hospital is not enough of an ordeal, adding a parking ticket on top is kind of cruel.

Wishing your daughter the best.

they are relentless there. one lady leaving in front of us once lost her ticket stub and the guy wouldnt open the gate, she was yelling at him that her dad just died and was at the end of her rope. she ended up running the gate with her car.

Not sure how SMH is setup but at Richmond General Hospital, all driveways are gated! You have to PAY to get in the ER to drop someone off!!!

Thanks again folks. The thing is at SMH, you cant buy a ticket until you park and get the stall number. If you park, then wander off to find a pay point, find change etc, you could get a ticket just like I did. I'm just going to keep my eyes peeled for the parking attendant today and make sure I pay before he gets a chance to give me a ticket. The nice lady I called today admitted some of the parking guys wait for just my situation, pretty bad if you ask me. But from now on I'm paying with visa then I have a record as SMH does not issue dashboard tickets.
Also, $4.50 for one hours parking is robbery!!!! My wife passed away in SMH 6 years ago, she was in hospital for 3 months, I went there every day for the whole 3 months, I know it was a real pain to have to pay parking on top of my stress and grief. Back then you could buy a 5 day pass, a little cheaper but still expensive. there should be exceptions when you have someone terminally ill like I did. The nice lady in the booth got to know me and would sell me a seniors pass even though I was not a senior. now those nice both folks are gone, I guess thats progress.
I like what Mspeed said aaboit Richmond, gated and you pay as you enter then there is no chance of a bogus ticket being issued.

With regards to parking, I feel bad for the people who park on Oak street in front of Children's or Women's.
When the tow trucks come and tow them away during morning rush hour......you just know those people already have enough to deal with than to worry about their car, but I guess they should've parked in the lot and paid the crazy rates??....I dunno.

Hope everything goes well with your daughter banjaboy.  You and you're daughter are in our prayers.
I know how you feel.  It is very stressful for a parent especially dealing with an ill child.  When our boy was only 17days old (yes 17 days) he had to undergo painful tests as he caught a virus. Watching your child go through painful tests is very difficult.  It's something my wife and I will never forget.  But in God's grace he will be turning 4 this friday!

Thanks Rooney, appreciate your comments. at least I got the ticket sorted. but you know there is a straw that breaks the camel's back. My son was sick, his new wife was pregnant and had complications, thank God the baby was okay, lots of other stuff, its just a bad patch in my life but I will get through it.

Don't worry there will be brighter days and things will lighten up for you.  It's these trials that makes us a better person and appreciate how fortunate we are, and makes us realize the things that we take for granted at times.
