hey guys,

was wondering if you can help me out here.

My PS3 blu ray drive (FAT PS3) is dying on me, again.   Last year, I took it to someone (craigslist ad) to have the laser replaced because the blu ray movies/ps3 games just kept freezing, and it began to work again after I went to get the laser replaced.   However, that was unfortunately a short-lived purchase.

I finally decided last night to take it apart and clean the lens myself last night to no avail.  The darn thing is pretty much on its way out - it reads blu ray discs intermittently.   But when it does read the disc, I can watch the movie/play games.   All firmware updates have been performed.

Sooo.. I'm fully convinced that I should get a new BD player to swap in.   Apart from ebay, would anyone know where I can get a blu ray player replacement for it?    I realize that I might have to buy a used one off ebay... or probably just get the new slim PS3 with the recent price drop.   But I figure that if I can, I might as well put a (new) one in there, if possible.

thanks!

My bluray drive on my ps3 died a few months ago as well. With the recent price drop on the current ps3's I'm debating whether or not to just buy another one..although I hardly play it since there's no games lol

it is tempting to get the slim... BUT, I don't wanna spend $250+ if I can get a "new" drive for just over $100ish.   It's dead simple to change, so I figure why not change it if I have the means

My blue ray drive was fine but my fat YLOD'd so I had it repaired and she died again. Mine was an original 60gig ... But I gave up on here and bought a slim. If you hardcore game I would be looking and trading for a new one just because of the longevity of the motherboard possibly ?

Dont get me wrong though. I miss my backwards compantable fat.
